If I notice that the bike company is making false claims about the components on the bike, I will do my best to correct the misinformation. Why is that a problem?

The crank and front derailleur are Tourney, not Altus, and the chain is KMC.

It looks like it has a freewheel instead of a cassette. A freewheel hub has the bearings much further inboard making them and the axle more subject to damage if riding off-road.

Bikes these days are super easy to "put together". Really all you're doing is putting the handlebar, front wheel and pedals on. Growing up, "putting a bike together" was literally individual parts that would take hours.

Got one and assembly was pretty straightforward. Had to adjust the rear disc brake and front derailleur tension. After that it rides perfect. Installed a handlebar riser as well.

Costco is stuck in the year 2000 from a technology POV. You have to speak with a store. I think stores can check other store's inventory though, so it would just be one call.

You misunderstand. Dicks will fit you for the correct frame size, assemble the bike for you, and tune it up front and on return from break in.

Costco will give you a box of a bike that may or may not fit you and may or may not work right out of the box.

If this bike fits you (the XC27) I think its better. I've had both. The Dicks bike BARELY has traction on their tires, the XC27 are true Hybrid tires and much nicer.
I returned the Dicks bike after seeing it in store. Without opening the box, if you open the box and ride, you are stuck with it.
