My 135" screen in my theater begs to differ.
It should have dropped below $2,000 by now
Agree, with advancement in technology compared to 2019, this is still overpriced, despite the fact it's a nice product.

Epson literally has this on sale every 3 months sub 2k.

But ya let's keep just thinking inflation and covid justify price of technology 4 years old....

You'd be a fool to buy this at this price.
Lol no they don't. Are you confused with the 4010?

I review projectors for a couple publications and have seen everything from cheap DLPs to the Christie Eclipse. At this projector's MSRP it is still the best value in front projection out there.

I heard on avsforums that newer lamp model upgrade will be announced in fall. I placed an order for 5050 but wondering to keep it or wait for fall? What is your recommendation? I don't like spending 4000 or 5000 to get laser projectors. Main usage is movies and tv shows in the bedroom. Love to have 3d.

I have a hard time imagining Epson replacing it with another lamp model. The improvements they'd make would be what the LS12000 has but just lamp powered. That would be improved pixel shifting and HDR handling, adding frame interpolation for 4K and Scene Adaptive Gamma, and then the new menu system with 11pt grayscale. If they do this then it would severely undercut what the LS12000 and LS11000 are doing. Also, it most likely wouldn't include 3D. I believe how they're driving these new LCDs is leading them to cut 3D.

I love my 5050; installed it in my theater room a year ago and it still looks great after watching over 100 movies, and the 3-D is awesome. Epson projectors are good in general, and this one has been the "best bang for your buck" for a long time. I'm keeping mine until native 4K projectors with Dolby Vision drop in price a bit more.

What's a good value in the current market? Think next gen tech will be a significant step up in value or capability?
