Been digitizing a bunch of photos for family members, these frames have worked very well as gifts to display them. It does pass through their service, but has been relatively reliable over the past year+ (only one outage of about a day). It can tap into a google photo album, along most of the other cloud based storage options. It also has a decent set up process along with some remote settings options. You can definitely go cheaper, but this is a good option if you have the budget for it.

That is also a good reason to buy it from Costco given their generous return policy. Just save the receipt and I would bet if the frame company went under in five years Costco would replace/refund you.

Been digitizing a bunch of photos for family members, these frames have worked very well as gifts to display them. It does pass through their service, but has been relatively reliable over the past year+ (only one outage of about a day). It can tap into a google photo album, along most of the other cloud based storage options. It also has a decent set up process along with some remote settings options. You can definitely go cheaper, but this is a good option if you have the budget for it.

Is there a subscription service/size limitation when connecting to google photos?

No limit as of yet, but as notated above with these service based frames, there is never any guarantee. At $99 it isn't a huge investment for me, and by the time I hope/think a service issue might creep up I'll want to upgrade anyway.

For all the paperweight comments, I bought one of these for my parents and then in laws and now everyone on both sides of the family own one as well as many friends. I should take commissions on how many of these people I know have bought now. Although it's not this model (I bought the Mason), I highly recommend the company's products. We started by getting one for my office so I could get a nice rotation of family photos on my desk. Then the in-laws, then wife, siblings and more in-laws. I think there's 6 or 7 in the family now. The app makes it very easy to share photos amongst family members and the overall picture quality is very good.

I'm using old android tablets and Fire HD 10 for the digital photo frames.
About the apps, you can use gFolio / pixFolio $4 or Fotoo - Photo Frame Slideshow (free with limitation)

about the share drive, I suggest to use the Google Drive, you should create new account. Because you can share the drive with Write permission for your family, your friends...
