Does anyone know the difference between this model Q420 v U3404?? It looks like q420 is exclusive to BestBuy, but cannot find anything if the computer is the same as u3404 (besides different configuration)

Is chassis, screen keyboard all identical? Searched everywhere and nothing found

anyone can speak on fan noise? thinking of getting this then hooking up an egpu
My NUC is quiet when connected to the eGPU since it's not using the integrated graphics.

Our Zenbook 14 OLED ($500 deal) was loud and hot, but I think the 14x may have better cooling.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank Dr.W

All the people complaining about the display being glossy, I can assume have literally zero knowledge about laptops. It's an OLED display, they are going to be glossy whether it be a $550 or $1500 laptop. That's the whole point of OLED displays, they're supposed to make the colors pop and look vibrant, matte displays are never going to give you that and no matter how good and accurate the color coverage is, they're still going to look washed out as compared to OLEDs.

If you don't want glossy displays then why in the world are you even looking at a laptop with an OLED display.

Unless you are a programmer or a creator in any form, you don't need more then 8/128 for consuming porn (get a chromebook or get a clue).
You forgot people who spend their life gaming..
I would say 12+256 for windows and 8+256 for Mac is fairly enough for about 90% users.

It's a shame that most of these mid-high end laptops now have touchscreens which are always glossy.

Is the 550 nits only with HDR? Notebookcheck measured the actual brightness at under 350 nits.

Cute.
They're not even the same models and the one you linked is literally 2 generations old. They could be using a different manufactured OLED display for this one.

Don't understand how 12th gen laptops are retaining any value when current gen is dropping in price so fast.

Quibble all you want, but spec like this just 2 years ago (unrelated to pandemic) would have been min $1500.

Not just Asus, but across most models.
I7-12700H is ranked 76th out of 1,406 processors. The thirteenth gen is ranked 41st. The thirteenth gen chips are supposed to be very good actually. However, playing around with PCs last week at best buy. It still often takes several seconds to load up a site like YouTube on the newest laptops. It's hard to tell the difference in most situations, even compared to the tenth gen laptop I was coming from. Will we ever see laptops where things load instantaneously?

Looks solid. Is the RAM upgradeable? what about additional storage ?
Not 100% sure but usually only the SSD can be upgraded. Very rarely the ram. In a 14 inch anyway. Look at 15.6 laptops or gaming laptops, those sometimes have upgradable RAM. And sometimes multiple SSD slots.
