I own(ed) this monitor as well. Even though it had great reviews, mine started displaying grey bars three months after the warranty ended. If you are going to buy any LG monitor please get it from Costco or get a good extended warranty on it.

I have the 950 version and it barely made it 2 years before the backlight went out.

Not worth it. Get the Dell 34" Amoled for $150-200 more whenever it pops up on refurbished

They will have updated versions coming out soon as well.

You don't even need 4k for gaming. 1440p is more than enough. Most people can't even see a discernable difference between the two.

I own both this monitor and the Alienware oled. The oleds still have a few issues, mainly the horrible text banding from the sub-pixel layout, and burn in. Watch monitorunboxed on YouTube for more details. This ips panel is still superior in many ways, and this is a good deal for a great monitor. Like I said, I own both the oled and ips and use this one way more for both gaming and productivity. The oled is nice for hdr games and movies and is used periodically.

i paid 1000 in june of '20. daily driver throughout the pandemic, still going strong. makes weird cracking sounds as temps fluctuate between warming up or after it's been off for a few. tempting to buy a second and retiring the smaller 21:9 dell i have but you guys are scaring me and making me think i got lucky on mine.

Bought the 34GP83A-B version of this monitor in July of 2022... absolutely love it. All the comments about it crapping out after 2 years kinda worrries me though Smilie

My usage for it:
  • Coding - absolutely awesome. Split screen code on left, output (web dev) on right or database on right, etc.
  • Gaming - Halo Infinite, Diablo 4, COD:MW2, etc. Originally paired with an RTX 2070, now an RTX 4070, so I have a card that can push this monitor.
Regardless, if you're coming from a dual monitor set up, I think you'll super like the single ultrawide better. I was skeptical at first but now will never go back to dual setup if I can help it.

4k is a must for such a big display, I believe the company just over produced 2k screens.

That's a feature, not a bug. I don't want to spend RTX 30/4090 money. This ultrawide is demanding enough as it is.

For reference, I have this monitor and paired it with an RTX 3080. It's just about right for my quality and framerate expectations. Higher res would be a no go for me.

This is an excellent monitor. I have the LG 34GP83-A, which is basically a rebranded version of this monitor. Couldn't be happier. Up near 5000 hours after two and a half years and still going strong. Colors are amazing and the gaming is pure heaven. Of course, IPS has the natural weakness of low contrast relative to its newer OLED cousins, but you won't notice most of the time.

I would say there is a discernible difference on my 4k 27" LG IPS monitor.
Is it discernible enough to not want to go back? Some games have textures that look incredible on 4K.
But assuming you are a normal distance away from the monitor, it's certainly not a dealbreaker, and it's MUCH harder to run high FPS+graphical settings.

4k 144FPS for me funnily enough is the ability to play 1440P 144FPS mostly, and have higher pixels per inch fidelity with desktop browsing. I could never go back to 1440P when browsing internet and looking at text again.

And (almost) any game from PS4/Xbox one and previous can easily run high FPS 4K on current and last gen mid tier GPU's and above…. So it's not out of reach especially on newer titles where you can run DLSS if on NVIDIA and turn settings to high and ultra. Hopefully can say the same for AMD when or if FSR gets a little bit better

Are there any 4K models in this 34" ultrawide screen size?

Not sure if curved monitors are generally less reliable or maybe we both got bad apples. I bought an early model Dell ultrawide 34 and the screen appeared to delaminate when it was warming up, but then fine after it was warm.

I got it replaced, but then the same started happening with my replacement Dell years later. It looked like condensation in 5% the screen, but didn't bother me too much since it went away each time.
