I have the previous year model, and I think it might not be what you think. If you use the included ASUS charger, it'll charge at 100W, which at least for me, doesn't discharge the battery even when gaming. However, if you use any other charger, it'll max out at 65W via USB-C, which will discharge the battery while gaming/maxed out. Its frankly ridiculous that ASUS is pulling shenanigans like this, but I believe this isn't super uncommon (where when using more generic charging setups like hubs that can do 100W, a fair amount of laptops seem to top out somewhere 65-90W).

This should be a better version of the laptop I have (not sure what brightness the screen on mine is rated for, but its a bit dim for use outside, however this claiming 500nits should be better if it actually lives up to that). I like it quite a bit, and this version should help with the largest weakness, which is the battery life. It is a thin and light with dGPU so not super surprising, but still.

I bought it hoping they'd release some newer more reasonable eGPU (or prices would drop making it more palatable at least), but they basically went the opposite direction, and coupled with the ones they do offer being the mobile versions of the GPUs, plus some overhead or something that saps a bit more power, just isn't worth it.

I definitely would have preferred 2 USB 4 (or TB4) USB-C and 2 USB A ports over their proprietary connector (which seems to be far from perfect for supporting the eGPU with some failures and just some clunkiness - reports of having to restart laptop to get it to recognize the connection).
You are correct, it has sleep issues, so I switched all power options to hibernate in the control plan.

Please be aware that this is a Windows + vendor-implementation issue, LTT made a video about it, even my work laptop, which is mass produced for office environment, has the same sleep issues.Only hibernate works fine in this X13.

There was this case where I shutdown the X13, left it inside my backpack, and it did that new crazy sleep-shutdown hybrid thing where it wakes up and does some activities, and it was cooking itself inside my backpack.

To fix that, when shutting down, I run a bat in my desktop with this text string in it:

shutdown /s /f /t 0

This fully shutdowns the computer, hasn't given my any issues at all, I do this with my work laptop too which has cooked itself to death multiple times due to the exact same reason.

If you are comfortable with these workarounds, switching sleep to hibernate in the power control plan, and running a .bat file to shut it down, you are going to be happy with it if it is your only nitpick.
What? Its a low power thin and light that doesn't draw more than 100w, why is that not enough?

I have the 2021 version and the 100w charger is plenty. I have other complaints but the charger is definitely not one of them.

FYI sleep issues are supposedly still not fixed, even with latest BIOS or the beta BIOS that allows USB 4 to work. This has prevented me from purchasing.

Please correct if I'm wrong so I can be more encouraged to purchase.

What's the battery life for productivity work on this?
It really depends what kind of productivity... If I'm compiling code, it may half the battery time from someone doing worksheets in Excel... And vice versa, you can have this convoluted XLOOKUP + FILTER functions in Excel, and have half the battery than me designing HTML+PHP..

I'd say medium productivity with 50% screen brightness, which is what I've done, 3* hrs will be no problem, that's my use case.

Pretty solid deal, I'd say. I have the first gen one with the 5900HX and 1650Ti. Bought it for full price in 2021 and I'm still using it as my travel laptop. Great CPU in it and if you really wanted to game, you can at 1080p.

on the first gen model with the 5900hs and 3050 ti, i was able to get 6+ hours with it set to only use integrated graphics and while inside where low brightness was readable. after a year and a half of constant use it's down to 3-4 hours for that now. dedicated gpu + heavy gaming netted an hour or two typically.

it does comes with two usb c (not usb4/tb3/4 though) the proprietary connector is just an occulink connector running nonstandard firmware (since it predates occulink egpu) and a bog standard usb type c 3.1 mashed together. you can still use the usb type c part of the xg mobile connector for everything the other usb c supports. 100w fast charging, peripherals, etc.

also, the egpu prices DID drop. the 3080 16gb went down to $1199 and the rx 6850m went down to $999 on asus's site a month or two ago. considering it's a 16gb 3080, which has a nearly doubled cost per unit from nvidia for some reason, it's not a bad deal at all, considering how much additional functionality the dock provides.

this laptop is a great deal with the dock if you are space constrained, travel a lot, need a portable, need wacom cintiq drawing functionality, need power for 3d work, etc. if you're just looking for an ultrabook convertible with pen support, moderate gaming chops, the x13 isnt a bad buy on sale at under $1200, at $850 this is a steal.

How is this laptop compared to https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus...Id=6494638.

One is new 850 and the other is openbox (satisfactory) 880. any feedback will be appreciated.

I will use it for productivity mainly. Not interested in gaming.

the form factor is going to matter most to you then, would you prefer a 13.4 inch convertible or a 14 inch laptop? aside from the better gpu on the zephyrus, which doesn't matter for productivity, they are nearly identical in overall specs. if you just need it for productivity, a cheaper laptop with integrated graphics only instead of discrete graphics would be a much better value.

good luck repasting and repadding these ultra thin laptops in six months without breaking anything. they definitely do not want the consumer doing it themselves. now that's something to complain about.

how thin do you think this thing is? People repaste and repad thin and lights all the time, it's about the same thickness as dell's XPS line and people repaste those all the time.

Anyway ASUS uses liquid metal on these and the G14s so the thermals are great and it lasts for years.

I'll complain about the soldered ram all day though, wish they had a cheaper version with 32gb, 16gb not enough for work.

I just cannot decide between these two, Lenovo Slim Pro 7 seems slightly doing better on some benchmark tests, better track pad, slightly better screen, but also apparently keyboard is not the best compared to Flow x13, battery tests between the two have inconclusive results, and Flow can also be a notetaking tablet... Not to mention the common vague sense among people that Lenovo has a better quality (which hasn't been my experience compared to Asus)...

I'm decision fatigued and ready to be nudged folks? What say you all?

I am undecided like you, but I went with the X13. The screen is about an inch smaller than the Lenovo which is not great but the ability to use a Wacom stylus for me will add a lot of funcionality to the X13. Also, there are quite a few content creators on Youtube that really like the X13.

There's that deftly. Ben's video had pulled me in anyway in the first place. But I also noticed that Slim Pro 7's 3050 has 6 gigs. There's also... that.

Thanks!
