I have the previous year model, and I think it might not be what you think. If you use the included ASUS charger, it'll charge at 100W, which at least for me, doesn't discharge the battery even when gaming. However, if you use any other charger, it'll max out at 65W via USB-C, which will discharge the battery while gaming/maxed out. Its frankly ridiculous that ASUS is pulling shenanigans like this, but I believe this isn't super uncommon (where when using more generic charging setups like hubs that can do 100W, a fair amount of laptops seem to top out somewhere 65-90W).

This should be a better version of the laptop I have (not sure what brightness the screen on mine is rated for, but its a bit dim for use outside, however this claiming 500nits should be better if it actually lives up to that). I like it quite a bit, and this version should help with the largest weakness, which is the battery life. It is a thin and light with dGPU so not super surprising, but still.

I bought it hoping they'd release some newer more reasonable eGPU (or prices would drop making it more palatable at least), but they basically went the opposite direction, and coupled with the ones they do offer being the mobile versions of the GPUs, plus some overhead or something that saps a bit more power, just isn't worth it.

I definitely would have preferred 2 USB 4 (or TB4) USB-C and 2 USB A ports over their proprietary connector (which seems to be far from perfect for supporting the eGPU with some failures and just some clunkiness - reports of having to restart laptop to get it to recognize the connection).
You are correct, it has sleep issues, so I switched all power options to hibernate in the control plan.

Please be aware that this is a Windows + vendor-implementation issue, LTT made a video about it, even my work laptop, which is mass produced for office environment, has the same sleep issues.Only hibernate works fine in this X13.

There was this case where I shutdown the X13, left it inside my backpack, and it did that new crazy sleep-shutdown hybrid thing where it wakes up and does some activities, and it was cooking itself inside my backpack.

To fix that, when shutting down, I run a bat in my desktop with this text string in it:

shutdown /s /f /t 0

This fully shutdowns the computer, hasn't given my any issues at all, I do this with my work laptop too which has cooked itself to death multiple times due to the exact same reason.

If you are comfortable with these workarounds, switching sleep to hibernate in the power control plan, and running a .bat file to shut it down, you are going to be happy with it if it is your only nitpick.
What? Its a low power thin and light that doesn't draw more than 100w, why is that not enough?

I have the 2021 version and the 100w charger is plenty. I have other complaints but the charger is definitely not one of them.

the form factor is going to matter most to you then, would you prefer a 13.4 inch convertible or a 14 inch laptop? aside from the better gpu on the zephyrus, which doesn't matter for productivity, they are nearly identical in overall specs. if you just need it for productivity, a cheaper laptop with integrated graphics only instead of discrete graphics would be a much better value.
Thanks

There's that deftly. Ben's video had pulled me in anyway in the first place. But I also noticed that Slim Pro 7's 3050 has 6 gigs. There's also... that.

Thanks!
The Lenovo has the Ryzen 7 while the Asus has the Ryzen 9. So for most regular computing tasks the Asus will perform better. But the Lenovo should do better in games since it has 6gb of VRAM instead of 4. Neither have upgradeable RAM. The Lenovo has a 1600p resolution that will look cool, but it isn't very practical for a 14.5" screen. It will consume more battery and processing power while making some text harder to read. The 1200p resolution of the Asus is a good sweet spot for a 13.4" display. My X13 arrives tomorrow so I'll be able to answer any other questions once I get my hands on it. And for anyone else ordering one, the stylus that many recommend is on sale right now during prime day. The Renaisser Raphael 520C

it does comes with two usb c (not usb4/tb3/4 though) the proprietary connector is just an occulink connector running nonstandard firmware (since it predates occulink egpu) and a bog standard usb type c 3.1 mashed together. you can still use the usb type c part of the xg mobile connector for everything the other usb c supports. 100w fast charging, peripherals, etc.

also, the egpu prices DID drop. the 3080 16gb went down to $1199 and the rx 6850m went down to $999 on asus's site a month or two ago. considering it's a 16gb 3080, which has a nearly doubled cost per unit from nvidia for some reason, it's not a bad deal at all, considering how much additional functionality the dock provides.

this laptop is a great deal with the dock if you are space constrained, travel a lot, need a portable, need wacom cintiq drawing functionality, need power for 3d work, etc. if you're just looking for an ultrabook convertible with pen support, moderate gaming chops, the x13 isnt a bad buy on sale at under $1200, at $850 this is a steal.

How do you track when the egpu prices drop?

Anybody compared this to the LG Gram. I understand this one has a RTX 3050 a smaller screen, and it is lighter, if I get it right, and there are multiple versions of the LG Gram (I just chose one). For someone who doesn't do gaming, which one would you go with?

Can someone confirm if this really has (or close to) 500 nits brightness?
I really doubt that in this price range.

Yes it is super bright! I have an Inspiron 13 with 300nits and it's a massive difference side by side

As you said, there are many variations of LG Grams, 14",15",16",17" in screen sizes, and each (except 17?) has 2-in-1 and regular notebook styles. Some even have RTX 3050. Which Gram do you have in mind? You'll decide which form factor and size you prefer for your needs. If you don't play games or do graphics-intensive work, Gram will probably meet your needs better with a larger screen yet as light as X13. Gram will be less bright (about 350 nits) than this, however, so if you work a lot under the sun, X13 might be better.

I have the previous version of this laptop, lesser cpu. Lightweight. Decent throw away laptop for all your basic needs and some low level gaming. For $850. Much rather spend that than $3,000 for a high end laptop that burns out a few months later. If you need more graphics juice buy the asus external gpu mobile dock. Not cheap. Not a good price. But at least the option is there. Makes the laptop competitive with medium-high end laptops, but not better, based on my opinion and reviews. There really is no such thing as max setting laptops on the go anyway. For that the laptop needs to be stationary. It needs to be plugged in.

Ah, slept on it and missed out. I really wanted this to replace my glitchy Razer Book 13 and MSI Summit E13.

I hope it or an equivalent goes back on sale.

I have three friends who also own the x13 series, so one of us notifies the others. Sorry I don't have a better answer than that, just a small group checking websites manually once in a while.
