seems like the s531 is from around 2021? I still think its a great deal, but just a heads up that I don't think it's the 2023 model.

seems about fine to me. it's a cheap tv, you get what you pay for. either get this, or go for an lg oled. those don't have perfect qc either.

funny that you mention the 7.7 rating because the 2022 model (55s555) only rates a 7.6. there probably have been some changes in their rating scale, testing methodology and just variation between the tv panels. I figure it's mostly the same thing. the 55s555 is going for $430 so I'd say this 2020 model is the better deal.

This, their reviews do not carry over from years from what I see. The U6H/U6HF has a 7.4 but crushes this TV across the board, Amazon has the 50" for $300. The 2021 and 2022 TCL would be a sweet deal at $300 but I don't think the 2020 model is worth it. The 2022 4 series I think would be a better TV going off their specs (almost as bright but better contrast and newer UI) and is $230 today -

Wasn't the 2022 or 2021 55" 5-series Google tv on sale for $200 around Black Friday last year? I remember it being available for at least a day. Luke warm deal here imo. I wouldn't buy unless I really needed it now.

The S455 got bumped up when Rtings applied the Bench Test 1.9, which they now know was incorrect. The S555 has been updated with the Bench Test 1.11. When the S455 gets updated with Bench Test 1.11 it will probably drop down closer to 7.0-ish.

Yep, it sure was. I don't recall if it was the 555 or not, but it was the 55" for $200 on black friday 2022.
This deal is lukewarm... not bad if you desperately need something and thats your price range, but nowhere near as impressive as another full 33% off.
