I got in with the orginal deal without any issues. There was a lot of misinformation in the orginal thread, but yes, all you have to do it just activate the phone with the fi app, then take the Fi SIM out and never touch it again (sock drawer it, trash it, etc). You can pop in a SIM from another carrier with no problem. After 120 days have passed you can verify that it's finalized in your fi account > savings > earned. At that point you can do whatever you want, the discount is yours to keep.

I think a significant difference here is we are not getting the storage upgrade for free? I got this deal last time but got the s23 ultra with 512gb for the same price as they are offering the 256gb.

If it shown in progress on his account under fi savings, its all good.
The In Progress column is always there until the promo has been earned. The attachment below shows the exclamation mark that is displayed when Fi decided that the SIM was activated by a new member.

I'm not sure if Fi is now shipping S23 models without a pSIM or they simply missed it with your friend's phone. (That happened with some S22 phones).

Thinking more about it, it could be that when Fi ships a phone to an existing member, they assign the current Fi number TO THE IMEI instead of the pSIM as I previously thought. When that phone is activated, it'll use the pSIM if installed, else it will use the eSIM. Back when Fi shipped the Pixel 7 without a pSIM, most of us activated it with the eSIM, but some people went out and bought a BYOP SIM to activate with their Pixel 7. The promotion worked either way.

Like another member said, you can use the phone's SIM Manager function to remove the eSIM, or reset the phone which will ask if you want to clear out the eSIM or leave it alone. I don't know what effect it has on the promotion if the phone has Fi service via eSIM and you remove the eSIM.
@hacklovemaster seems to have tested out concurrent E-SIM from Google FI option with another carrier SIM in one of the previous posts . It is the best to leave google FI E-Sim untouched with another carriers sim card

https://slickdeals.net/f/16804301-google-fi-256gb-samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra-unlocked-smartphone-various-colors-600-more-w-existing-fi-account-free-s-h?p=165478199#post165478199

Also during the first boot of the phone itself , I saw that the S23 Ultra detected an E-Sim so it some configuration that Google FI / Samsung has predone to detect these devices as Google FI devices as the Google FI app is not installed before the setup is complete. Also I agree the device is linked to IMEI instead of a SIM card

The second option of removing the E-SIM completely may also work out fine but it is something which has not been tested.

After activating and moving my service successfully from the old sim to the s23 ultra, is it ok to remove the fi sim and put my US mobile sim, or do i have to wait a certain time?

From what he wrote he didn't wait. As soon as he activated the byod sim he ordered the s23 ultra.
Correct didn't wait. Immediately activated sim byod. Ordered phone. This then triggered the yellow exclamation mark. I then called and disputed service rep said he could see where I had a byod prior to ordering the s23. Due to not waiting a few days there software didn't track me as existing member. He put in a support ticket on the weekend. Support emailed and triggered my promo and the yellow mark disappeared. Currently tracking days until offer is completed

Just a note here I knew I was doing this wrong. the guide specifically tells you not do immediately order and wait 2-3 days. I was fairly certain I could talk my way into a promo exception. If for some reason I had been wrong I would of returned the phone and waited to trigger another promo.

Got my s23 setup and my counter will expire around Christmas. (Merry Christmas to me!) Thanks hpham_53 for all your help. If anyone has any questions or needs a referral code (surprisingly hard to find) feel free to dm me.

About 24 hrs after activating the s23, check Billing-->Fi Savings-->In progress. If there was no problem with the activation and the counter has started counting down, it's safe to remove the Fi SM and uninstall the Fi app (so it won't nag you to put the Fi SIM back in).

What I did was move the Fi service to the esim so I could use my other sim in the psim slot. It's all good. It say I have 120 days left. Thanks.

I'd let it count down a day. But it seems moving FI to eSIM works reliability as others have posted.

I don't plan on doing it, but how does one transfer active Fi service from a pSIM to an eSIM?

I have not done it but google FI works on iPhone 14 with eSIM so if one follows the steps here https://support.google.com/fi/ans...form%3DiOS they should be able to QR code to use in the Samsung SIM manager.

I had activated a Fi Pixel 7 out-of-the-box with its eSIM because Fi didn't ship it with a pSIM. I'm curious to know how people who had activated their S23 phone with the pre-installed pSIM transferred their service to the eSIM.
