I just plug a vacuum into the outlet and when I'm at the breaker box and hear it turn off, I know I flipped the right one.

Yes, that works well, but you're focusing on only 1 benefit/function of this outlet tester while omitting its main benefit/functions.
Your vac won't be able to tell if your outlet is wired correctly, nor be able to test the GFCI.

Typical Slickdeals mentality is, buy when it's on sale, even if you don't need it right now. When you DO need it, 1. forget that you bought it, 2. Forget where you put it. End up getting frustrated and buy it at retail. Now you own two. But when you dollar cost average it, you are still ahead.

#1 happens when you go to checkout at Amazon, and see "Previously purchased on....."

Maybe it's just me. I hope some others agree!

Yes, that works well, but you're focusing on only 1 benefit/function of this outlet tester while omitting its main benefit/functions.
Your vac won't be able to tell if your outlet is wired correctly, nor be able to test the GFCI.

How is this better then the little testers for half the price? Well, aside from the "beep" which doesn't seem to serve any purpose.

Another poster said that he uses a hair dryer to test the correct breaker. Same hair dryer can be used to test the GFCI in a tub of water.
