The crucial P3 Plus, which is Gen 4, is now the same price. 79.99 for 2 TB. It's a well rated SSD. I would choose that over this.

I ordered this model when it was first released from amazon about $400 and received a counterfeit product(sold and shipped by amazon). It was pretty stressful, eventually they replaced it, but after this experience I try to avoid amazon if there are other options…
That sucks, but I stillstand by what I said. I suppose anything can happen, but your actual chances of getting fakes via Amazon (or anywhere) are extremely low, and they account for a VERY tiny percentage of all sales. If you want to avoid Amazon, that's fine and your choice, but this is a very rare occurrence. They receive product directly from large manufacturers like Samsung rather than them going through some third party that would have the means or incentive to ship phony merchandise. Receiving a defective/DOA/malfunctioning product is MUCH more likely, and lemons are just a reality of electronics.

Out of curiosity, how did you determine that you received a fake new 970 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe drive? Trying to understand how this would be inserted into the supply chain, and who would go to the trouble.

Great analogy and explanation, as there is widespread misunderstanding of both of these things.
However, most any cars that require higher octane fuel will also have knock sensors and easily retard the timing if lower octane fuel is used, effectively preventing pre-ignition and any possibility of damage. But your reasoning is sound, and an engine for which 93 or 91 octane is specified requires that more knock resistant fuel to perform at its highest possible output level.

Yea, it was a simplified analogy for sure. So much nuance on those topics for days.

Amazon is mixing inventory with other sellers, so if some of them introduce fake product, it can be shipped to you. There are many websites that explains this, I can't paste links but if you search "amazon comingling inventory" you can find the details

The one I received was in a sealed box, but the product was not Samsung at all, it was completely different brand and different type of nvme connection.

The other sellers don't have something like FBA so chances are smaller. We still sometimes buy expensive stuff from Amazon but I generally record opening those packages just in case.

I ordered it from Amazon and received the 870 EVO SATA Drive. ASIN sticker was covering the original one. After arguing with customer support they agreed to send a replacement. Waiting to see if that will arrive correctly.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08X4XL71S

Is this worth the 20% off savings?

The Intel is a Toyota Camry, this Samsung is a Lexus ES.

The Camry is a great car, but some opt for the ES.
