I couldn't see anywhere I'd it can take wood pellets. Anybody try them on this unit?

No, only seasoned hard wood or fire logs.

Serious question, wouldnt it be easier to make a circle of stones than carry this around?

Wondering what would be the use case for this would be...

After all you can only make fires where allowed.

i looked into this also no answer anywhere. the solostove has many holes at the bottom, whereas this has 3 horizontal box channels that funnel into the bottom air chamber. I think this may work with pellets as they wont fall through. if it doesnt work then that means it would clog those 3 channels -- however when you fill the solostove with pellets, it also theoretically blocks the air intake also.

regardless, this is a lot cheaper than the solo stove ranger which would also need a stand to match these features. hot shot was also sold at costco and is considered a 'higher quality' smokeless firepit compared to non-branded firepits

It's a firepit, but I was wondering if it could be useful for cooking for my food storage

I can't find any indication anywhere of what length of firewood it can accommodate. Seems insane as that will be a major factor in using it unless you're cutting your own wood specifically for it.

Unsure of this model; but I throw pellets in pretty much every solo, fire, (insert device here) and I can assure you they burn. Sometimes need a cheap screen at the bottom but wouldn't use on a deck. Burning my mesa now without the pellet adapter as I type.

Depends on the situation though right? Like if you can drive up your campsite then just bring this instead of hunting/gathering for stones, then having to engineer a smokeless stone ring. But if you have to hike a ways to your campsite then yeah…wouldn't make sense and you wouldn't care about the smokeless feature at that point either. Good for backyard though.

Lots of natural landscapes do not have stones laying around. For example I'm in central NC and it would take me hours to find enough decent sized stones for a single fire ring unless they were placed there for erosion purposes.

But yes, this would be a drag to carry around and store if you weren't basically traveling to your campsite via a vehicle.

A better contained / safer fire, faster to start / end casual fire, fire that burned faster / cleaner / more efficiently. A fire that could handle decent wind, easier to cook over. These are neat to have for small fires but too small to be useful if you are burning gathered wood (unless it is small branches and twigs)

Many places (almost all private campgrounds / RV parks I have been to) require fires be "elevated off the ground."

Besides the smokeless thing that others have mentioned, it's super easy to get a fire going in one of these. With regular fire pits, you have to deal with wind or bad circulation, or sometimes wet ashes. With these types, you don't have to worry about any of that, super easy to have a roaring fire in a matter of minutes.
