Believe it or not, this is the minimum size necessary to make a difference having 4K resolution if you are sitting closer than 13 feet from the TV.

https://i.rtings.com/images/optim...h-size.png

Most people sit way too far from their TVs to have optimal viewing. Money aside, many would actually be better off with a screen this size. A screen this size should be about 6-12.5 ft. from a person's eyes. At 6 feet it will still be viewable, but it's will be kind of like IMAX where you have to look around a bit.

I guarantee you it's not Google Tv os, it's the Sony TV. Myself and many others had these same issues with the Sony tvs. I have since used an Nvidia shield and it's by far the absolute best 3rd part media device you can buy. I have roku boxes, 4k firesticks, none come close to the smoothness and reliability of the shield. I will never use another tv os again. I use this on my LG 77 C9 oled.
I don't doubt it. I was so unhappy with the bugginess of the Sony tv interface and apps crashing that I sold it at a loss and went back to an LG Oled. Now have had a LG C1 for a couple years, and the smart tv features aren't perfect but at least they work. I also have a streaming stick for when I don't want to deal with the bull crap.

Why would you try to put this monster on a TV stand? Just wall mount it.
I don't have a wall that would make sense to put it on. But I have a fireplace that's 100" wide that's never been used as an actual fireplace. It has an 85" tv on it now. And so far nothing bigger will fit because they put the stand legs on the corners.

98 inch where do you put it. I am getting rid of my 65 since can not fit it anywhere ! 98 inch. I guess you buy it first and then make a building around it.
Believe it or not, most houses have walls.

Never buy a tv based on its operating system.

Buy a streaming box for 60 bucks or less. 5 years from now, you just buy a new updated box. Not an entirely new tv.

Serious question, will this be cheaper near or on Black Friday?

Looking at Best Buy reviews, people were grabbing this TV on Black Friday for $4999 on sale.
Hard to say. Prices may go down with time hopefully but they could stay stagnant too. TCL announced another 98" TV recently for $5000 MSRP: https://www.digitaltrends.com/hom...ilability/.

They release another 98" TV in Europe next month with a $3100 MSRP (converted to USD). And they just dropped a 98" MINI-LED recently for $12,000, on sale at Best Buy for $10,000 currently. Since this TV is older than all of the above, I would hope it'd be cheaper sooner rather than later.

I don't see it going below $3900 this year but I don't have a crystal ball. Wink If Amazon does sell it for $4,000 again around the holidays, and certain credit card companies offer 5% quarterly cashback next quarter, that sweetens the pot a bit. Amazon credit cards may offer cashback but I don't know enough about those personally.

I'm hoping the European unit comes state-side with that $3100 MSRP: https://www.techradar.com/televis...lously-big

Also just found out they released another MINI-LED model recently in Japan for roughly $7,000: https://www.techradar.com/televis...n-samsungs

Such a good discussion going on here. I am in the market to replace my 12 year old projector. (Epson home cinema 8300, that is still running strong). And I wold like to go 100 inch tv… BUT, I want it to last. I bought a Vizio 65 inch and I am really bummed 2 of the led zones in the tv no longer work (after a year and a half of occasional use.…. So wish one of the manufactures would step up and design and WARRANTY a tv that will last.
You should consider the Epson 5050ub refurbed projector on sale for $2,100 at epson.com

Today's Sony TV may not be better than TCL, let alone Hisense. But the extra 2 inch does make huge difference.
No, it's still accurate to state that Sony is better than TCL and Hisense. If, for anything, Sony does not include embedded spyware into their hardware like TCL and Hisense have both been known to do. Do not forget, that 100% of Chinese companies are owned by the Chinese government (i.e. CCP.)

This is not a political statement as this is factual data on Chinese companies, TCL and Hisense.

Now, having made the statement, I own 2 TCL TVs which I use (with all smart features and WiFi disabled) for simple displays for various purposes. I also own multiple Sony televisions.

The 2 TCL televisions I have (S3 series and 4-series 50's) are both less than 24 months old - both have had component failures in that time period (easily fixed with replacement boards.)

The Sony Bravia's TVs that I have are well over 4 and 5 years old and have not had a single hardware failure or dead pixel.

Anecdotal perhaps - but you do get what you pay for.

I'm planning a movie room in my basement next year. Was going to go 100" projection, but this has me thinking, maybe it's better to go with a traditional 100 inch TV instead? Is there any advantage to a projector movie room over a LCD TV movie room if size is the same?
The hdr is way better on this tv then a projector.

Can you put 4 together to make one big image? I know there will be lines in between.. I just want to have a larger screen.

Someone commented on this in a previous deal on this tv. If I recall they said the image quality is good but nowhere near OLED. But they mentioned the sheer size made it a better viewing experience for them, especially with sports, so my guess is it's highly a matter of personal preference of image quality vs size.
