Does it need razer software or can the buttons be bound in Windows itself?

check the low star reviews. the biggest problem with this mouse is theres a big gap between the scroll wheel and buttons so stuff tends to fall in there, then the scroll wheel malfunctions.

You need the Razer Synapse software to map the buttons. But once you have it set up, you can uninstall it. The mouse remembers all button remapping, macros, DPI and LED settings.
