Lol this is literally the opposite of reality. Unless you're a trim carpenter all you'll be doing on a miter saw is rough chopping to length. The table saw can do, with far more precision, the work of at least 8 different tools.

How does this compare to the Dewalt DWS780?

Edit: For those who care, apparently this saw doesn't come with a shadow light or laser.

From what I understand the Lowe's app and website were showing the deal prices originally at stores that had them, but it is no longer working. The price was incorrect on the app while I was in store buying mine and I got the discounted price

For those of you that woodwork, what are your thoughts on just using a table saw vs grabbing one of these even if I may not really have the space? I honestly don't know how often I'll need the depth this can manage (was thinking maybe a 10" non sliding) but having it just in case is really drawing me in.
They're really for two different things.

I use my table saw when I'm cutting lots of boards to the same length, because it has a fence so it's easier to be consistent. The miter saw is really more for one offs, or just a few boards. I find a miter saw easier to do angled cuts; pushing across the table saw at an angle is just awkward.

I have a sliding miter saw, but I really don't need the sliding feature. I was using it to cut beams for a while, but I don't really do that much because I ran out of glulams.

Checked a local store… Brickseek showed OOS, but Lowes app show availability. 2 in store, but app and shelf label were both full price. Even some of the other ZIP codes mentioned on the deal are showing $649 now.

Did anyone see it pre-checkout or did you have to roll that thing all the way to the register before the price showed lower?

I have the DWS780 but am about to put it up on FB. With the sliding arms, it's just too big for my space. I have to haul it outside whenever I need it, so it goes unused.

The shadow line is SWEEET. That is the biggest reason I don't want anything but the Delta miter saw, which is often available around this price.

I thought about upgrading to the DWS780 from a ~20 year old non-sliding Bosch for several years. Really liked the idea of the shadow light. I was about to pull the trigger on the 780 last month when a Lowes employee told me to try the Bosch glide saw. Glad I did - it's in my garage now and I love it. If you don't mind the extra weight and line up the kerf with your pencil line anyway…buy the Bosch.

Check out the rigid as well, exact same saw as the delta (delta makes it) often it goes a bit cheaper.

Thanks. I haven't seen the Rigid go as cheap as the Delta but may not have been paying attention.

You probably know but for others, the Rigid 12 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw does NOT have a lifetime warranty but instead 5 years. Heard this has something to do with being made by Delta.

For anyone considering this, just know you can EASILY add a shadow line to this saw for under $20. There is a space in the front of the blade guard that an LED sewing light, with simple modifications, can fit right into. There are tutorials everywhere. If you have the confidence to do some DIY and make cuts on a miter saw, you should also easily be able to add the shadow line upgrade

Same as well. 4 in stock and the saw rang up for $649 when I asked an associate to check. I was able to pick up the table saw (bosch 4100xc-10 from the other deal thread) though at a different lowes (yes I did drive between multiple in the area... lol).

At the regular retail price point, I am surprised this saw doesn't come with a shadow cut line. Almost all premium saws have at least some cut line it seems.

I was able to pick one up in North East Houston, the Atascocita store. It showed half price on the app the other day, then went back to full price in the app the next day. Sticker on the isle showed half price,

Laser lines and shadow lines are kind of hard to understand the usefulness of. Just make your pencil mark and use your eye as you drop the blade down. After a few cuts you would know t even think twice. Definitely Bosch over DeWalt.

I've been working on building up a collection to start woodworking once the temps come down a bit. A miter saw's not been on the list due to space constraints, I was planning on using the dwe7491RS w/ a nice miter gauge instead but boy is this tempting knowing the glide's take up less space than a normal sliding saw.

For those of you that woodwork, what are your thoughts on just using a table saw vs grabbing one of these even if I may not really have the space? I honestly don't know how often I'll need the depth this can manage (was thinking maybe a 10" non sliding) but having it just in case is really drawing me in.
Depends what you like to build. I personally got a nice 12" delta miter saw (non-sliding) first and used the crap out of it building projects and doing trim at my previous house. For ripping, I used a circular saw with a straight edge template I built (easy to line up to your cut line and backs up the cut). I'd do it the same again as the miter saw gets used more for me. Nice table saws are more expensive, and I ended up picking up a nice one used a few years later. I had other tools like a router and router table to do dado's, but you can do those with a slider on narrower stock.

Now that I have a dedicated small shop (one bay of a 3 car garage) there's very few projects I don't use both, and having the table saw too saves a lot of time setting up guides and clamping them down for my circ saw. I also have a really nice miter sled for my table saw but I still almost always use the miter saw if what I'm cutting will fit on it!

(Btw, if you get this miter saw, you could also pick up the cheap Wen track saw to buy time before you get a table saw. I have it and love it and keeps dust way down when attached to my dust collector compared to my circ saw).
