You're better off spending $100-200 on a refurbished Rachio controller if subscription is a concern.
When I called Wyze to trouble shoot the first one, they had me remove it from the app, and reinstall it. That didn't fix my problem so they told me to just return it to amazon and get a new one...
Some great person on here made an account where the username and password are both "brickseekfree"

I'm now looking into jerry rigging an in-line fuse at the AC power supply to protect the system. Something like this https://www.pcboard.ca/inline-dc-...use-holder

The fuse on my unit is on the DC side of the circuit.*EDIT:* My mistake, the fuse is on the 24-volt side of the circuit, but my point still stands. You don't want to put the fuse on the 120-volt side of the circuit. The low-voltage side is also AC but it doesn't make much difference, it's 24 volts for the solenoids.
I hope this helps. I have an older Orbit unit that controls really old 24-volt AC solenoids that occasionally burn out over the years.
