Sometimes it's knocked for being too derivative of Tolkien. The influence is obvious, but it stands on its own. I do think it's an easier read than LOTR, especially for younger readers.
The individual books typically run much more than this, and the trilogy has never been cheaper. I paid the same price in 2018, but it has not dropped this low since at least 2020.

Still sad it ended so fast.
So might as well try the books.
I also think Sword is boring and could barely make it through. I'm glad that wasn't the first book I read!

Good point. I remember it being on par with the Hercules/Xena TV series lol.

Earthsea was amazing, so I read them all. The First Law series was very good, but lacked a lot of magic and was more sword and board type characters. So I did not continue reading after the first book as I prefer a more magic type world, although I will at some point go back and read more, maybe in a year or so. The Saga of Recluse was awesome and different, but by book 3, it got a little repetitive. So I paused that series for a while and explored others. The Cradle series is a real page turner and again, different from most traditional Fantasy series. I can't stop reading this one, I'm halfway through book 2 and it's the sort of story that has you thinking about it, even when your not reading.
if someone has a recommendation, I'm all ears. I read Brooks when I was younger as well as Goodkind too. When I was in Highschool I read everything I could by Stephen King and Dean Koontz, but moved on to Fantasy and Sci Fi after I graduated.
