There's no way you can compare a Western Digital to a crucial

I now hate crucial

For example, the crucial X8 2TB external SSD has a 256 GB cache which is horrible for large video files. It fills up very quickly it takes a long time to empty and then the write speed drops down to 90 MB a second.

Large files take years to copy

Or several smaller files if the cache is filled 100 GB, will slow it down

On the other hand, Western Digitals can have up to 600 GB on a 2 TB drive like the 570 and 770 can have 600 GB cache that clears very quickly so I can save huge video files 350 GB in just a few minutes and then it recovers very fast

These are the drives that SanDisk uses in their externals
The 570 and the newer external 2000 versions are 770

That's how I learned about these
heard about Tom's hardware on this site

Someone was asking about a heat sink and if I'm not using a heavy aluminum case with lots of mass for 90$ and Thunderbolt

if I'm using a small plastic external enclosure like the orico the 770 overheats when I try to use it in that enclosure with the aluminum cover in place
So I use this instead https://amzn.to/3Rl4ZMU
When I used to build flashlights, we used copper tape, if heat build up became a problem with a lightbulb or an LED

The fans will have a little air moving between them more surface area will dissipate heat faster, but that's only for large computers or external
I used thermal tape to attach the copper heat sink to the orico heat sink and now it doesn't overheat

But if you want more than 1000 mb on a Mac.
and then not have to buy a heat sink, just get a thunderbolt case

Remember not to buy 2000 MB a second if you're on a Mac the limit is 1000 unless you're going with thunderbolt 3

Yes, although you would need to add a heatsink as I understand it.

This is a better drive. I got the P5 for about $125 a few months ago or I would jump on this. But the way it is going I would wait until Black Friday.

Are we at a point where we think prices are near the bottom? Or is it likely that they'll keep going down?

How does this compare with the Samsung 980 or 990? Is it worth paying almost double for the 990 PRO? Are the ones with Heatsinks worth it? Transfer rates are obviously higher on the Samsungs. Looking to replace my 500gb SSD on my mid-tier gaming laptop... Any help would be appreciated!!

$83.99 = 2TB WD_BLACK SN770
$135 = 2TB Samsung 990 PRO
$150 = 2TB Samsung 990 PRO with HEATSINK
$144 = 2TB Samsung 980 PRO
$129 = 2TB Samsung 980 PRO with HEATSINK

If you're talking about speed, you can never tell the difference in real life. TBW is also a speculation. What matters most is how well you can persuade any of these companies to honor warranty. Neither of them will compensate extra money for data loss.

Can you help me out if possible -- i'm leaning towards this deal for $84 but the other samsungs seem to be better? My post is right above yours. Thanks in advance either way
