No, it's highly rated everywhere and a favorite of many chefs. The only drawback I can think of is that its taller, narrow container that's praised for its ability to draw down items better than the wider containers found on almost every other Vitamix makes the 5200 too tall for most people to store on the counter under cabinets, if that's a factor.

Does the wide version have a similar overall volume? Like can you still blend the same amount of stuff? I have the tall version and don't remember the volume of it

Both have 64 oz containers in different form factors.

Suggest pp watch videos to see for themselves . "Narrow is better" certainly does not apply for every blend. The wide jar can chop and yes it does draw down incredibly well with a strong vortex if used correctly.

Why sacrifice having a weaker noiser 5200 just to get a narrow jar? Jars are lowest price ever right now. Buy the narrow 32 or 48 oz as an accessory. Honestly few will need it . Make sure the blades are on the wide jar are covered with liquid, 1-1/4 cups. Load correctly to get a perfect blend.

Sure, if there is no need for the more nuanced, gentle mixes that start with less liquid than what covers the blade on the wide jars, then they will perform similarly, with the 750 being better for batch processing tasks like ice crushing (without liquid) to make snow cones. As you suggest, the person who asked the question should watch more videos on both options because there are trade-offs and considerations for both.

As someone who came from a blender with programs and timers, I now prefer a manual dial and switch. I also make sauces and garnishes in the kitchen that are small quantity and thick, and that's where the 5200 excels. The design of a narrow blender keeps less air out of the mix so it's smoother and less frothy.

The Rtings site does a fairly decent test of these for comparison. They do not really go into chef-focused tasks like I mentioned above. More batch processing tasks like smoothies, nut butters, and ice crushing. It's still good for seeing other differences that might be important, like if you want to put the container in the dishwasher.

Wirecutter's explanation of why they prefer the 5200 shows why you often see the 5200 in chef's kitchens:

America's Test Kitchen also praises the 5200 for similar reasons:

[QUOTE=grayguy1;165838411]Sure, if there is .../QUOTE]
edit: got the 32 oz on the way to go with my 7500. $75 f/s is too good to pass up. Good point of the air incorporation. Healthy components of green juice are destroyed easily. The juice will visibly darken showing that it has oxidized. I add greens after the crushed rushed ice. Technique helps. Bright green juice and you are doing it right. I'll try the tall 64 at some point.

The 32 and 48 oz perform the same as the 64 tall narrow because the base and blade are narrow same as the 64 tall. The 32 is a tad bit more narrow than the 48 or 64 tall.

The 32 48 64 tall are compatible with the 7500 and legacy series. My point is not to buy the inferior 5200 just to get a narrow jar. The wide jar which comes with the 7500 can easily be re-sold for $99 in the unlikely event that a user actually finds the low wide inadequate for their use.

More tamper work is required with Wide 64 on certain blends. Proper loading is important as is using at full speed when required. Lenny shows that it is possible to blend creamy frozen fruit in the wide low with no liquid but he had to use more than twice the fruit compared to 32.

32 oz does not ship with the mini-tamper. I asked for it and they threw it in n/c. Available with a dry or wet blade. Rubber cap which is better for one-handed lift-off. It won't work with models which require self-detect

The 48 comes with S2 tamper in both self-detect or non-detect versions. The self-detect version works with all modern Vitamix blenders including classic blenders. Self-detect is not listed as compatible with legacy blenders only because these have no detect function. No worry, they work fine.

If you don't mind the plastic lid on the self-detect containers then buying self-detect jars will future-proof the purchase should you later upgrade to an Ascent. Non-detect versions won't work at all on Ascent but choose those to get the rubber lid.

I don't always agree with Rtings:

[ "The Vitamix Professional Series 750 is a little better than the Vitamix 7500 for most purposes. The 750 delivers a better blending performance since it's more suitable for making single-serve smoothies in its main jar and nut butter. It has a few automatic blending programs."] Show me!

[" Then again, the 7500 is slightly better built and quieter."] ??

They also list the 7500 as 200 watts stronger. Vitamix rating labels may not agree with Rtings.

Model numbers do not define specs. Build components change. I have an early 7500 which is much quieter than the new 7500's. As long as one sticks with a full size machine the quality performance and results will be excellent when used with skill. I couldn't unload the Costco E320 Explorian fast enough but that's me.

Nope. The soup function works as advertised. As do the clean and smoothie functions.

I got one of these in 2016 and have used it at least 2x per week since 2018– solid performer.

How so? My Breville Boss 910XL has a loose metal coupling at the base so I'm in need of a new blender. Is this a good deal on Vitamix or should wait for price to get even lower?

Nope. Thats what I am waiting for.

I bought a "new" model Vitamix in Dec. It was loud, the container leaked, and I continually smelled burnt motor.

I just want simple. I dont need all the bells and whistles, just the power... and a non-leaky glass container - which I realize is not supplied, so at the end of the day I may not buy a Vitamix at all because microplastics/leaching chemicals is not my thing. (The narrower containers create the vortex better, or so I read. makes sense.)

Which model did you purchase with these issues?
