The circular saw is the only tool I have from Ryobi that I am not actually a fan of. Blade tends to get stuck often in the middle of a cut. Frustrating. I tend to favor the plug in saws if I had a longer cut to make. For short cuts on 2x4 or something similar, Ryobi is fine.

I think it's really dependent on how much you use them. I've had Ryobi has my main line and do pretty much everything DYI. I've yet to be unhappy. That said, I've only seen pros use Milwaukee or Dewalt. I don't know how much beating Ryobi can take in comparison.

I have HP and non-HP batteries - there is little to no difference. In fact, I think it's mostly marketing based on some YouTube reviews
For many tools, you won't notice a difference (maybe slightly longer battery life, but that's not worth it). But for some of the brushless tools, you can get substantially more power from an HP battery than a non-HP battery. That add'l power might be worth it for some of the heavier duty equipment (blowers, vacuums, drills, etc.) but that add'l power isn't worth much in some other tools (saws, nailers, etc.). It is convenient to not have to worry much about whether or not you care and just always have HP batteries available if you use your tools a lot. Not worth it for others.

It's definitely not as big a deal for most as some make it out to be, but it's also a big deal for those few. Up to you to determine where you fall. I personally have a couple HP batteries and the rest of mine are non-HP and I'm just fine with that. 😁

Still feel like I got the deal of the century on 2 2ah batteries, charger, brushed drill, brushed impact driver, and a weed whacker for $37.50 on a 50% off 50% off clearance sale at home Depot. Put me in a life long Ryobi ownership spiral.

These tools, even the cheap brushed ones, are gonna be great for most diy'ers.

Can anyone comment on Ryobi warranty claims? I recently reached out and was basically blown off. Tool died under a year and was just left feeling like their CS isn't worth the savings going forward... I still need to see where this goes but certainly rubbed one the wrong way!
I've only had to claim 1 single warranty issue on all my Ryobi stuff and I started when they were blue. My warranty issue was the very first Brushless Hammer drill they came out with. The trigger in mine started operating sporadically in the first 3 months I owned it. Had to go through Home Depot tool rental counter for Ryobi warranty. They replaced 3 parts inside of it and it has worked ever since. I even passed it down and got the newer Brushless HP model a few years ago. I've never lost a single Lithium Ryobi battery and mine live in the garage heat and cold. The old Ni-Cd were a different story, but all the brands sucked back then. My Dad never had a warranty issue on a Ryobi tool, but he did have a battery go bad about 4 years ago. It was long out of warranty so I tried playing with it where you jump charge it to get it back to a low level, but that didn't work for it.

My main cordless tools line is Ridgid. But there are things they don't make (e.g., stapler) that I'd like to have - in a nice to have sorta way - but also expect to use not these all that often. I understand I can buy an adaptor for Ridgid to ______.

I wanna keep it to one other brand...do you recommend Milwaukee or Ryobi?
It depends on how much you would like to spend and what you want to do. Ryobi is good for tight budgets and DIY/ household in general.

What is your beef with the orbiting sander? I picked up my older model the other say, and it was dead. Haven't used it in a while. So looking at the newer model. The PCL406. What is wrong with it?
The only way to describe it is like trying to sand with an impact driver. I wouldn't use it anywhere near anything important.

Yes. Thanks. I guess the question is, is Milwaukee worth the small premium? Or, is Ryobi good enough most of the time?

I'm mostly Ridgid, but have a couple Ryobi and also some Milwaukee 12v line. Is not horrible not staying with one brand.

Ridgid is stepping it up and they do have a stapler, so I don't really regret going Ridgid at least just yet. Milwaukee is like double the price in some tools and most Ridgid products I have I got for half the price or around that.
Oh? I didn't realize they do have a stapler. Thanks!

I want to try not to get into all three. Tho' I do see comments like "X's drill is better than Ys" and "Y's saw is better than Z's". I prefer Ridgid. My sense is, that Milwaukee is better than Ryobi. Sure, more $ usually but ya get what ya pay for.

I'm old enough to know, ya get what ya pay for. I'm old enough to have kicked myself enough times for saving in the short terms and then having to re-buy in the long term. That is, no savings at all.

Not sure if age has anything to do with it, but stupidity level does. Being an owner of Milwaukee 12v tools I joined a few Milwaukee forums and level of stupidity in there was amazing. 75% of them still refuse to believe that Ryobi is a sister brand or that they share technology. I can tell you my Ryobi tools put it far more work than those Milwuakee fan bois showing off their 40 packout cases stacked taller than their mall crawler bro dozers sit.

You do realize that Rigid is the sister brand to Milwaukee and Ryobi right? The Ryobi framing nailer they just release is an upgraded version of the Rigid. The longer Rigid nail tray is a straight bolt on to the Ryobi and I just added it to mine for building a shed. The Ryobi just runs a bit faster than the Rigid in comparisons. All three share technology though. I've had far more trouble with Milwaukee 18V tools than my Ryobi which is why I stuck with Ryobi in the end for the full size tools.

In the past 3 years, a couple of 40V battery warranty replacements went rather smooth for me along with a claim involving a lost wing nut on my expand-it handle. Maybe 1 of those times I referenced my receipt, but all of them simply needed the S/N as proof of purchase.
Of course, YMMV on time to receive replacement.

tip: When the tool "dies" because the battery is low, don't attempt to use the battery further until charged. I'm pretty sure that's what caused my 2 premature failures.
