so what's the consensus on the airs now? I've seen so many issues with the display cables being damaged from normal use which causes the display to stop working. and now that they've been out for a while, it's becoming more apparent since it is "time" that was needed to see this issue. does anyone know if apple did anything in the m2 airs to prevent this? ppl say that the airs will last 5-6 years... well not if the display ribbon cable isn't properly protected and fails due to damage from normal usage. i'm sure an apple consumer will just be like "pay for the apple care" but then it's like... ??? i'm buying a product that is defective and apple care is basically required now? it's crazy how many ppl say apple products are quality products but then they always say you better get apple care tho... if it was quality.. u wouldn't need apple care
Just commenting on this my M1 Air with a shot screen. I closed it at my desk and woke up with a large black bar through my screen. Quoted $600-$800 to fix it. I can either try a cheap $200 eBay panel repair with the risk of breaking it or just suck it up and buy an M2. Either way, was pretty upset to have one of the most essential parts of this machine give up on me after two years. Hoping to hear something else about display fixes otherwise I'm going to have to suck it up and spend extra on AppleCare
I have an m2 air with zero issues, got on launch day. Agree with you on applecare, i think its robbery, but im careful with my devices.
its kind of a thing to remove the screen from the m1 laptop and connect it to a monitor...Why? because in addition to the cpu, you are getting a touchpad and keyboard with fingerprint sensor, both of which would cost you about 15o bucks. Plenty of youtube videos showing u how. Good luck
If you qualify for educational pricing, Apple sells the 13.6" M2 8/256GB MacBook Air for $999 with:
$150 gift card (promotion ends Oct 2nd)
Discount on AppleCare+ if purchased with the laptop
Easy trade-in for old laptop (we got almost $400 for my wife's 2020 Intel 8/256GB MacBook Air a week-and-a-half ago)
Was hesitant to buy a computer with only 8 GB RAM in 2023, but getting the base model meant we could pick it up immediately.
For general use (web/video/email/docs/simple spreadsheets), her M2 MBA crushes my Asus G14 (Ryzen 9, 40 GB RAM), though obviously the G14 wins when it comes to gaming and other CPU intensive tasks (or anything that needs a lot of memory).
Fast, fanless, cool, lightweight, vibrant screen (though only 60 Hz), no chassis flex, excellent keyboard, superb touchpad, and battery lasts forever. Sweet little machine.

Debating if it's a worthwhile upgrade to go from my 2019 MacBook Pro 13 with intel. I know the m chips are supposed to be faster and cooler, but I'd hardly call myself a power user.
Use the trade in deal that someone mentioned in this thread. You may get a generous trade in value for your old Mac directly from Apple.
I don't plan to but anything from BestBuy again, last summer I found a deal and I bought AirPods. I had a problem and service said that the AirPods I bought from BestBuy is not original. I couldn't believe that and visit another Apple service and they said the same thing. It's FAKE. I talked with BestBuy but they didn't change with an original AirPods or refund the money. I had a bad experience
And Best Buy sold me a "new" dishwasher that had water in it 💦
I am not a troll, I'm just trying to say be careful when you buy from BB. My money turned to trash. I'm not avoiding your question. it was not a sealed and not an open box product. I have my receipt still. I found my receipt and a picture after I bought it.

looking at the box you can clearly see it's fake. Font is different and plastic is not suppose to have sealed lining. Someone probably bought it and returned the fake one not sure how, because BestBuy checks the serial number on the box and on the receipt.
I recently had bad return experience at Target with Bose QC earbuds. They didn't want to accept return because serial number inside the case didn't match serial number on the box. I googled it and apparently that serial number inside the case is for the charging case and not the earbuds. I had to call quest services and they contacted the store to accept my return.

that definitely looks resealed. Apple products don't have that seam in the plastic seal. Also, Apple has gotten away form plastic wrapping boxes now, they are usually just tape sealed

Same reason that people who never tried or will ever buy apple comment on apple threads . . . because . . . reasons.
