so what's the consensus on the airs now? I've seen so many issues with the display cables being damaged from normal use which causes the display to stop working. and now that they've been out for a while, it's becoming more apparent since it is "time" that was needed to see this issue. does anyone know if apple did anything in the m2 airs to prevent this? ppl say that the airs will last 5-6 years... well not if the display ribbon cable isn't properly protected and fails due to damage from normal usage. i'm sure an apple consumer will just be like "pay for the apple care" but then it's like... ??? i'm buying a product that is defective and apple care is basically required now? it's crazy how many ppl say apple products are quality products but then they always say you better get apple care tho... if it was quality.. u wouldn't need apple care

Just commenting on this my M1 Air with a shot screen. I closed it at my desk and woke up with a large black bar through my screen. Quoted $600-$800 to fix it. I can either try a cheap $200 eBay panel repair with the risk of breaking it or just suck it up and buy an M2. Either way, was pretty upset to have one of the most essential parts of this machine give up on me after two years. Hoping to hear something else about display fixes otherwise I'm going to have to suck it up and spend extra on AppleCare

12 GB is expected to be the new norm but yea apple is super stingy with ram, which is so cheap nowadays. I miss being able to upgrade myself.
12gb?

This is unacceptable. I thought Apple would have learned their lesson from their laptops with failure prone GPUs and keyboards that don't last more than 2 years. Apparently Apple continues employing substandard engineers that make these choices. If you must have MacOS, maybe the best path is Mac Mini with a monitor.
ohh they know what they r doing. they r not hiring substandard engineers. the design is done so that product lasts 2-3 yrs max.
perhaps u can say that the engineers are sub standard that they cannot design something that exactly fails in 2 yrs and instead fails at 1.5laugh out loud.

entry M1 Airs level are designed to fail within 3-5 years.

You spend $800-1000, then another $800-1000 to fix after 3 years. Thinking you got a deal when good windows laptop start at $150 and will cost $20-50 to fix.

My M1 works fine as a spare, i leave the lid open on most of my laptops.

You can always connect to display out. Changing the LCD parts may cause some bars, but usable.

Apple used to make classic ipad, MacBook that would last 10 years. SE and iPad 9 are last of them.

Now its T series device designed to destroy right to independent repair.

No 8GB with 256GB. Too slow. That's why they are selling it. On October, new M3 chip is coming.
It is by no means slow for the everyday user... I have the MacMini with same specs...faster than any other Apple laptop or desktop predecessor I have seen. Consider the M chips flagship and fast. If you're not a heavy duty power user, 8gb will be fine. The M chip makes up for the lower memory. Hence the great performance! It fits the bill...worth it! But I agree that in today's standards the basic memory size should come at least 16GB memory for all MACs and minimum 1TB of storage. Agreed M3 is a coming and claims much faster chip. Technology just keeps getting better

I don't plan to but anything from BestBuy again, last summer I found a deal and I bought AirPods. I had a problem and service said that the AirPods I bought from BestBuy is not original. I couldn't believe that and visit another Apple service and they said the same thing. It's FAKE. I talked with BestBuy but they didn't change with an original AirPods or refund the money. I had a bad experience
How would that be possible? Did you ever try finding your coverage under settings? I always check there after buying anything Apple to make sure it registered correctly as once I registered a MacBook and only gave me around 11 months under warranty and went back to the store the same day

That looks like sealed. It has to be one or the other. You can't just keep saying neither. Lol
Exactly. On top of that I don't ever recall taking a picture of my new product with the receipt. I am guessing gisadam just bought it off Facebook

Don't get the 256gb model. Apple puts a slow ssd in them. If you want a MacBook get the 512gb has a much faster gen 4 ssd. Classic Apple.

Debating if it's a worthwhile upgrade to go from my 2019 MacBook Pro 13 with intel. I know the m chips are supposed to be faster and cooler, but I'd hardly call myself a power user.
No fan, ever, is awesome. Battery life. Fast. I have the launch day Air and so do 2 of my kids. Love it.

You can order M2 without integrated GPU?

Intel chips are better if you like using Macs as hybrids and switching between Apple and Windows operating systems. Best of both worlds.
