You would blow 50%-100%+ of your $800 budget on a receiver that could support this many Atmos channels, plus then you need all the speakers. Running wires into your ceiling for a "legit" Atmos setup is also a serious PITA, and in general, a massive HT setup just doesn't pass the WAF.

Sound bars have come a long way vs. the models that existed 10 years ago.

Don't think you'll see better than this without bundling. Have the 990B and continued impressed with it even 12+ months later. Have tried Sony HTA9, Ambeo, KEF LS50II and others. None have the entire package, ease of use, and truly immersive around, especially at this price!

Thanks for the clarification. Didn't realize the rear speakers had different internals aside from the side drivers. Some people claim you can't hear any real world difference in the q900 with 9500s verses q990. While others claim there is some minor to moderate difference. I've never heard either so not qualified to speak on it. As long as it's a significant improvement over my q910 I'll be good to go...

Maybe try reading the very thread you linked? Changing the subwoofer channel worked for most people.

AFAIK, the 9500S were the surround speakers that came with the 950A flagship sounbar which is a predecessor of the 990c so they are no slouch. Also, the fact that they are still being adopted by Samsung for new soundbars is a good sign. My personal experience with the 9500S (paird to Q800B) is very positive and the surround effect is really good. Don't set your hopes up very hi for the Atmos part and you will be happy with your system especially after setting the individual channel levels to your liking.

Thanks for the response. I have no doubt the 9500s will be fine by me. Considering the only soundbar system I've owned (although briefly) that included rears is the q910c. Small and weak sounding at best. They're about what I'd expect a $150 5.1 setup to come with. Not acceptable for a $500 unit. Much less the $1399 alleged retail price.

I bought this coming from a Bose soundbar 900. I was ok with the 800 price tag (no additional savings for me unfortunately). I picked it up tonight and set everything up. Let me just say, I'm blown away by the acoustics compared to the Bose. It's really confusing to me that Samsung is blowing away Bose. This set up sounds amazing. Still need to run it through more paces but I'm a happy camper so far. Before the Bose I had a LG SJ9 with all sorts of issues.

Did you have the complete Bose set up with the 700 sub and surrounds?

The 900 was underwhelming until I added the sub and surrounds and did the calibration.

Samsung says product purchased via Samsung.com but picked up from Best Buy no longer applies 100days return period. Only 15 days return. Sucks. I didn't know about it and tried to return it but they are not accepting returns. Order was picked up on Sep 3rd.

I had problems with that as well. I could have sworn it told me I had a hundred day return window to try the soundbar. When I first attempted to return the q910c, They informed me I was past my two week return window. I argued with them for a while, Then i finally asked if it's still under warranty. They told me it was. I then told them I wanted to return the item for being defective. I explained the rear channels barely work, And apparently that's normal from what i've read. So I told them I would keep exchanging the item over and over again until I received a unit with acceptable rear channels. Which most likely would never happen. She then put me on hold, Then came back and said they would grant me an exception, sent me a shipping label and said that I had 2 more weeks to send it in.

I understand your frustration. Samsung customer service has been about the worst i've ever delt with. Completely aloof and inconsistent. Trying to get help from their "experts" was comically frustrating when needing help with my new q910c. Complete waste of an hour and a half of chatting back and forth. Finally had to get my answers from people here and reddit forums.

I wouldn't drop the issue of being able to return this item if I were you. I know, for fact, it was telling us we had a 100 day return window in the description of these soundbars. But I think it ended up disappearing in checkout for whatever reason. I'd recommend you call back during regular business hours on the weekdays. I don't think anyone there on the weekends has much authority to do much of anything.

Not sure if I got a good deal on this combo using EDU discount, 10% promo code, and app discount: This HW Q990C + the S90C 77" OLED TV = $2893 (before tax).

OLED S90C 77 = $2248.56
Sound bar Q990C. = $644.43
Total (before tax). =. $2892.99

Should I keep both or just the sound bar by canceling the TV delivery to bring the price of the sound bar to $644.43 (assuming they let me keep the discount)? Any inputs are greatly appreciated.
