You would blow 50%-100%+ of your $800 budget on a receiver that could support this many Atmos channels, plus then you need all the speakers. Running wires into your ceiling for a "legit" Atmos setup is also a serious PITA, and in general, a massive HT setup just doesn't pass the WAF.

Sound bars have come a long way vs. the models that existed 10 years ago.

Don't think you'll see better than this without bundling. Have the 990B and continued impressed with it even 12+ months later. Have tried Sony HTA9, Ambeo, KEF LS50II and others. None have the entire package, ease of use, and truly immersive around, especially at this price!

Other things you can try, check the placement of the speakers, the q990c manual at samsung.com lists the optimal angle. Adapative/surround/game will upscale sound to all the speakers.
Maybe set the front channels -3, the rears +6. Increase volume to liking.

I have the 990B and it sounds amazing. Only flaw is that the Samsung mode to sync the TV speakers only works on YouTube and is wildly out of sync on my Xbox and other video apps. It's annoying because the sound is legitimately better with Q-Symphony, but you just have to switch the audio to soundbar only and it sounds fine.

Great deal! I got this with bundling back when the 77" S90C oled went on sale with aaa. Got the tv for $2400 and the sound bar for ~$650. So glad I got it! Works amazing with the Samsung TV. The sound is incredible and I can't even go above volume 20, because it just gets too loud!

Today I got the Q900c for $475 then I got the 9500 rears for $120 from Best Buy. Under $650 for 990c equivalent.

That's the exact setup I bought at exactly the same price. Curious as to what you think of it? Overall i'm pretty darn happy with the performance. It can be hit and miss based on the audio content being pumped into it. At worst it's a little weak, At best it's pretty impressive. Wish it was a little more consistent but I guess that's asking too much...

I don't own the q990c, I own the q900c with 9500s rears just like you have. However, I'm going to take a stab at it And assume the 990c rears are just about the same as what we have. Since it's very close, and it's nearly the same with just the addition of a side channel of the speaker. I understand your complaint of the rears being weak. I've experienced the same thing and sometimes they barely work at all. However, i've also noticed with some content they come in strong and sound pretty good.

I suppose how you feel about their performance would also depend on what you're used to. Up until my recent purchase of the. Q910c, I've never had rear speakers. But even I could tell those were terrible. They were literally half the size and weight of the 9500s. And believe it or not, were much weaker in sound. Cranked up to 6 you could still barely hear them for the most part. And with the right content they would produce sound to a modest level. However when you'd put it close to your ear, it was very thin and hollow audio.

With the 9500s you have to crank both the front and top channels to 6. With the right content I feel they are pretty decent. However each individual's miles may vary on that one. You could always return it and try the q990. However I wouldn't be expecting much of an improvement based on what people have said.

I did the same. I finally did get a rep to provide me with a code, but it didn't work, and they said ahead of time that it wouldn't. I supect that Samsung decided that those of us getting the EPP discounts shouldn't be able to stack another 10% off and cracked down. Good for them, honestly. At $800, it is a pretty sweet deal.

I haven't gotten it yet. Rears come tomorrow and the soundbar from Samsung Friday. I currently have the 910 soundbar on my living room Sony. It's pretty good, I'm hoping this blows it away though, especially hooked up to my Samsung Q90A
