Are these older iPads left over old stock that Apple predicted to sale and never did or is Apple still making these older generation iPads?

I have the iPad with the home button and an iPad Air without it, the amount of screen real estate you get by ditching the home button, and the laminated screen, make it, in my opinion, worth shelling out the extra money for the air without the home button,
