-2, yikes. For almost 30% off a Player Plus HSS strat. The pictures probably could've used some work but I thought this was a pretty good deal. I guess if it's not Adorama email price levels of deal it ain't worth a damn.

Same guitar from their website: https://store.willismusic.com/pro...x21143858/

Player Plus guitars are significantly better than Player guitars. The uninformed need to get a clue. They have rolled fretboard edges like a MIA, for example. No other production guitar in MIM history has had that. The Player Plus Strat is the only MIM Fender I own. It's worth every penny. LOL indeed.

Same guitar from their website: https://store.willismusic.com/pro...x21143858/ [willismusic.com]
I guess it is not very attractive for a Mint condition guitar. ProAudioStar has "used" player plus strats/teles at $700-$800 for some time.

Perhaps, but brand new and mint are nigh indistinguishable when buying from an authorized dealer. Tons of AD's on reverb list their lightly used display/demo models as mint and sell them as brand new with full mfr warranty. The exception being if they are actually selling a 'used' item (like a trade-in), and are stating that it is as such.

Still doesn't make it that bad a deal. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

EDIT: Missed that they mentioned it was a display model on their website [willismusic.com]. That's probably why it's listed as mint.

Not bad deals. They should've taken better pictures imo.

100%. The stock photos from Fender would've been waaaay better. Don't know whose idea it was at their shop to take photos with such low exposure and a black backdrop.

It's back to -2 again in any case. Can't win them all I guess.

I've played guitar for money for 45 years.

I couldn't tell you what a "rolled fretboard" is either.

I think it's one of those terms people use so it sounds like they know more than anybody else about guitars.

I figure after almost a half-century of playing for cash .. if I don't know what it is .. it probably isn't very significant.

Player Plus is a big upgrade from the regular Player series. Fender markets the Player as their "starter" model, and the Plus as their "mid-level" model.

The Plus models add:

- upgraded noiseless pickups
- upgraded switching
- treble bleed (something most Strat owners mod their guitars with)
- active pickup preamp
- rolled fretboard
- wider fretboard radius for more comfortable playing
- locking tuners
- steel block saddle (better sustain)
- better gig bag

So yeah, the Plus models give you quite a bang for the buck for the price bump. I agree that Fender should have named these differently though to avoid confusion.

- Noiseless pickups aren't necessarily "upgraded" over the traditional Player pickups. They're stacked humbuckers voiced to sound like single coils. Many prefer the traditional single-coil sound over the noiseless.
-Wider fretboard radius is also a preference. Many prefer the traditional 9.5" (some even prefer the more traditional 7.5")

-I don't see anywhere on Fender's page mention of treble bleed circuits
- I din't see anywhere on Fender's page mention an active pickup preamp. What does this guitar need a preamp for? There's no boost switch and the pickups are passive.

I was actually looking into this a bit, fritzo is correct about there being a treble bleed circuit being installed standard on Player Plus series guitars; It seems to be something they adopted from the American Professional line (Anderton's [andertons.co.uk], Peach [peachguitars.com]). I found a photo of the particular circuit here [thegearpage.net], it seems to be just a resistor/capacitor parallel combo with another resistor in series. I've no say on whether an aftermarket mod like a mojotone or a single capacitor would do it better, but it's present. No idea why Fender chose not to mention it, but hey.

The active pickup preamp stuff likely refers to the Player Plus P/Jazz basses (they come standard with an active 3-band EQ), Anderton's mentioned it as well but on Fender's site [fender.com]:
Quote :
The 18-Volt active preamp offers boost/cut for treble, bass, and mid frequencies for precise tonal shaping. A mini toggle allows the player to switch between active or passive modes for ultimate versatility. Finally, a quick access battery box on the rear of the instrument makes battery changes a snap.

Fender doesn't list wiring designs in their specs. You can find "hidden" specs on review or teardown sites. For instance:

https://blog.andertons.co.uk/labs...es-guitars

I like your "I don't like different parts so it's not better' argument LMAO The features are added on, cost more money, and are often mods that people do after-market.

I will say to scratch the pre-amp. That was a special edition and not a part of the normal Player Plus offering.
