Why do you keep taking random shots at monoprice on all the guitar posts? I ordered the les Paul style monoprice for like 60 ish bucks and it's honestly one of my favorite guitars to play. Crazy value for the price I paid. I also have the brownstone version of this Gretsch guitar from another post a while back and it is also a great playing guitar.

An actual Gretsch with a licensed Bigsby for $279 vs that $129 piece of firewood from Monoprice. Talk about a no-brainer! This is a great deal for a quality guitar.

I've had a similar experience. They're both good guitars for the price. Monoprice has more QC issues but if you happen to get a dud they handle returns well from what I've heard. Even if they're not perfect they're great for project builds. I learned a lot upgrading and improving my $60 piece of firewood and now it plays great. But for those who don't want to fuss around I'd highly recommend the Gretsch, it's worth the money.
How are these guitars so cheap? They look great, but I've never really held a Gretsch. Is the fit and finish just poor? Trying to understand how MIM Fenders these days are at least $500 and you can get one of these for like $250ish.

Well they're originally $550. There's a newer version of this model now so I'm assuming Adorama is just trying to clear out old inventory to make room for the new version.

Think of the Streamliner series from Gretsch as the Squier version of Fenders. Not knocking either brand, just managing expectations with the Gretsch brand name on this (I bought one a couple months ago and it's a really good guitar- especially with this deal). The Electromatic series of Gretsch is more the equivalent of the MIM Fenders from a price and quality perspective.

Gretsches are really great. Everything I've seen from the Streamliners all the way to the Japanese pro models have been high quality. This guitar's a bargain for $279.

I've played Squires and really can't stand any of them. Feels cheap and thrown together. Necks all had problems like fret sprout, dead frets, exposed wood grain flaws. Almost no sustain and pots were crackling. I bought this model Gretsch about 6 months ago and was stunned at how nice it plays and sounds. The only thing i had trouble with is the standard tuning issues of the bigsby. fixed that with "nut sauce" and the 10$ "soft spring". I love playing this thing.

I have a couple of Squiers (classic vibe 50s telecaster, vintage modified baritone jazzmaster), and both of them feel as good as this Gretsch. They are different, but I would not say there are significant leaps in quality between the Streamliner and the Squiers in my collection.
I've had the soft spring in my cart for a few weeks but haven't ordered it yet (same feel/tuning issue with my 2622t)... Does it really make a significant difference with the Bigsby experience?
I've been ignoring these Gretsch deals for a while, but I couldn't resist it anymore. Jumped on this, and combined with my Chase 5% Paypal offer, it's a good deal. This will make a dozen geetars for me LOL
These can do much more than rockabilly. Are they ideal for other types of music? Maybe not, but play what you like, and there's so many ways to change tones these days.
