Static storage? Not live editing? Then.. this is seriously overkill.
Massive overkill, why do you need that kind of speed for a photos/video storage drive, when you can get a 20TB+ HDD for that price.

So they finally released it. Does anyone think this is an overkill if I'm just going to use it as a storage for like photos, videos and file? If yes, any other recommendations for that purpose? I'm currently using a 990 pro 1TB for my OS and 990 pro 2TB for my programs.

Oh I have an HDD for archives/backup. I guess that I failed to say that I will be editing the files that I'll put in 990 4TB.

I know it's a problem on my part, but sometimes I have this habit of getting all the parts the same brand. I don't know but I'm comfortable that way. I'm planning to buy a 4TB nvme for a long time but they aren't releasing a 970 or 980. I'm willing to settle for that.

How does it compare to https://slickdeals.net/f/16979413-4tb-acer-predator-gm7000-gen4-nvme-high-performance-solid-state-drive-190-free-shipping For ~$100 less?

My assumption is the Samsung is more reliable, but for home use/light use is the difference that significant?

Did some research on the Acer/BIWIN 4TB drive earlier and there are concerns regarding the InnoGrit IG5236 controller in general with thermal throttling and failing over time. Several other drives that use the InnoGrit IG5236 controller have users reported issues including Silicon Power's 4TB XS70 that switch to using the controller in 2023.

You may think this is the best SSD money can buy, but compared to Intel's server SSD, this is a toy. Don't spend extra for a very tiny difference.

Even as a read drive for gaming it's overkill also. You don't need anything beyond Gen 3 speeds or even the slow external SSDs. That speed has no practical usage for majority of us consumers.
