Kasa requires neutral wire, this doesn't

Great deal, but Kasa would have comparable for likely half of this. Kasa is extremely reputable for a fraction so just double check before buying.

wish they had an option without the smart bridge/hub. I already have the bridge and looking to add more switches.

A remote paired to a switch can operate independently with the switch if the internet or hub goes down. Remote would usually be in the same room or adjacent hallway so communication with the paired switch should not be a problem.
This is a good point to note for those folks looking at Kasa vs Caseta. Caseta has remotes. And they're AWESOME. I realized after finishing my basement I wanted a 3 way switch somewhere. BAM. Caseta remote mounted on the wall. No one will EVER know. I've gone straight up Oprah with remotes: "you get a remote, you get a remote!!" I love being able to add light switches to places that dint have them before. And they look like the rest.

I have kasa, has been great most of the time. I also uses some Philips hue for no neutral control. Gonna get this to try it out for fun and connect to Apple home kit which Kasa doesnt support LOL

Lutron's Caseta line is great for very specific use cases in my experience. I've used them in my house for the following applications:

1. Adding 3 way switching to a downstairs hallway light to allow for control from the top and bottom of stairs (one dimmer switch and one Pico remote).
2. Correcting a 3 way switch wiring safety issue/hazard in my ~60 year old tract house where the original electrician used 2 wire Romex as 3 wire by using the bare ground wire as a traveler (one dimmer switch and one Pico remote).
3. Adding a dimmer switch to a bathroom where there was no neutral in the switch box (one dimmer switch).
4. Adding dimming capability at all switch locations in a 4 way switch situation (one dimmer switch and 3 Pico remotes).
(EDIT)5. 4 Speed Ceiling Fan Control switches on 3 fans.

Applications 1 and 2 are where the Lutrons really shine - not having to run new or corrective wiring was a huge labor savings.

Other than that, though, I use TP Link Kasa on/offs, dimmers, 3 ways, and 3 way dimmers in all situations where I have a neutral in the box, as well as Kasa plugs for holiday lighting, automated lamps, and energy monitoring. Device count is 17 with no WiFi connectivity issues, and that number rises to 24 when holiday lighting comes online.

I've made a pretty modest investment in improving my WiFi coverage, adding a TP-Link PoE WAP on the ceiling of the first floor in the middle of my 2 story house - no connectivity issues. The money saved on WiFi switches over Lutron Casetas more than offsets the cost of the WiFi infrastructure improvements.

The ergonomics of these old style Casetas is pretty terrible, but they do solve the issues above nicely - also voice assistants throughout the house mean that we rarely operate switches manually.

Good deal. But as someone that is not a big fan of the older swtich design, I am disappointed that the new Lutron Diva Smart switch is not on sale more than a year after it was introduced. This deal seems like a way to get rid of old stock of the old switch. Like I said, it's great for someone who wants to get started on the Lutron Caseta ecosystem with hub etc. but NOT for existing customers. As much as we'd like to switch to more reliable Lutron Diva switches, for now, we will stick with alternative brands.

And yes, we also have several Philips Hue devices (bulbs, lightstrips, ambient light devices, etc) but those are available on sale on/off more often than Lutron - which is my biggest disappointment with Lutron Caseta platform - that their products rarely if ever go on sale (except for in bundles like these which are no use for folks that already have some investment in their platform and prefer buying individual items.

Just my $0.02

Agreed. I have been migrating a lot of mine over to the Diva. Hoping they will come out with a Diva style remote though to replace the picos as well. Not a fan of mixing switch styles, but also not looking to drop $120 for every 3 way in my house .

Good point, the bridge is only needed for smart home integration. I started off with a Caseta on/off switch and a Pico remote to create a 3 way switch setup - the Pico remotes supposedly have a battery life of ~10 years. Only later did I add the smart bridge.

This kit is the start of a bad addiction. Your whole house will end up with a Caseta switch eventually.

That being said they are a lot more reliable then the Wemo stuff i had in before. These are pretty easy for the moderate DIY person to swap in.

The Caseta line is aging though and its been around for a long time. The newer Diva Smart line looks more like the non-smart switches but pricier.

But start with this kit and keep building when you can afford it.

That means the hub is a single point of failure
You only need the hub if you want to control your switches from an app or through Alexa. You can still press the buttons physically... or you can pair a pico remote to specific switch. The Pico's are great, you can use as a remote control or wall mount it and use it as a 3 way switch without running wires.

Most my switches are casseta and they work flawlessly.

I know people like to talk about Lutron being the best, no neutral, etc. Keep in mind that dimmers with neutral wires often have better compatibility. I tried these and they just don't work with my fixtures/bulbs. Brand new house, just built. I wish I could get some ELV zwave dimmers or something. I tried out some zooz dimmers and they worked much better than the caseta dimmers, but still had a little flickering and buzzing when dimmed. At least now I can run the light at 100% with no issues. The Lutron dimmers wouldn't run a light at any level without flicker at triple the price.

WHY ARE LIGHT SWITCHES SO COMPLICATED! It's unreal that you need a compatibility chart between light switches and light bulbs. I've got home assistant on a Pi, a NAS, a mini PC, an overclocked gaming PC, streaming videos to TVs in ever room, but I'm fighting with light bulbs...

I cannot initiate Alexa routines using button presses on Caseta devices though - the Caseta switches can be acted on by a routine, they just can't fire one off. That's pretty disappointing IMO. I am able to initiate automations with Caseta switches using Home Assistant however.

Honestly, you can buy new ones from eBay for ~$50, which is switch+gateway. So you spend less and will be able to get one more gateway than this bundle

I have a Kasa plug and casetta for all my lights. The Kasa app sucks randomly signing you out if you haven't used it in a week or so, plus device has to be unlocked to use the widget and the widget fails at least 20% of the time.
The Lutron app isn't perfect, with sometimes when outside the light takes a few seconds to turn on/off. Also the arrive home sometimes doesn't work right away, but most of the time it seems to.

Yeah, I agree that's annoying - it's an Alexa limitation (which are legion). I've moved a lot of my routines to Hubitat because, like HA, you can use pretty much anything as a trigger, and it's faster/more reliable since it's all on your local network.

As others have said, Lutron stuff is amazing and integration is great - just be aware of the very expensive addiction that this will start.

Do these have the lag that kassa switches have?

I went with Leviton instead and have been more than happy.
the Lutron buttons feel kinda mushy and they aren't able to be dimmed on both sides without a pico remote (not a real switch) if you have a 3 way setup
