A 12700k will be superb performance at 1440p for any game now or likely to come out in the next 5+ years. The price/performance ratio right now is a lot better than 13th gen. Also has more manageable power consumption and heat generation.

14th gen may be worth considering waiting for, but I still think 12th gen can be a great sweet spot for new builds because 14th gen will be expensive.

It may be an even better buy to get a 12th gen combo deal with a motherboard, some of those deals lately have been pretty incredible options.
