Spend the extra $$$ and get a warranty for 2 -3 years. Microsoft quality control on their gamepads is not great and have planned obsolescence. Unless they introduce hall-sensor joysticks, always get a warranty.

Agreed. These controllers are well known to have unresponsive buttons, would seriously avoid. Having a warranty is ok but more of a headache than anything to deal with.

Agree. Love these controllers for the long battery life but I had to get warranty service in less than a year for the rb button that was not responding.

I like that I can get stripped store return units for about $30 on eBay. Not too tough to fix the (IMHO) minor component problems that these develop.
Hall effect upgrade for a few bucks? I like to take things apart tho.
Paddle and stick replacements can be had for around $15.

You must be much better at soldering than i am, i think i counted 14 SMD pins for the thumbsticks. I had a hell of a time replacing mine even with a decent iron, solder sucker, braid and flux.

I've bought every Xbox and Elite controller up to this one. I will not buy another one, they have all been horrible. I don't even get the benefit of stick drift on these elites, some other button always quits working before then. And the bumpers... oh those worthless plastic bumpers.

Do yourself a favor and buy the PS5 Edge or some other pro controller. Battery life might be a complete joke but at least it works and you can feel that it won't randomly break like this POS.

I'll argue I'm not a hardcore gamer at all. Mine broke just before the 1 year period. I did buy the extra warranty at time of purchase for my sanity and I think its worth it for an extra $30 for 3 years peace of mind. Otherwise you can use a credit card for extra warranty if you have one that offers it.

But the PS5 Edge won't work on Xbox unless you use an adapter (I just checked this on the internet, can't verify)

Nope, they have durability and QC issues. I play for ~1-2 hours per week and I'm on my third controller in less than 6 months. First one had the notorious bumper issue after 3 weeks. The second one developed serious stick drift after about 6 weeks. I've never dropped any of them and I baby my electronics. If anyone plans to buy one, I'd definitely get the extended warranty.

Rb/lb button fix is very quick with contact cleaner on the switches but for the price of these controllers, they are insanely fragile, and I baby the hell out of mine.
