Not sure where you are looking. I wanted this tv, my last TV was a tcl series 6 but 2 months ago when I started doing research most things pointed to the u8k being better. I went and checked them out at best buy too and found the u8k to be better so I bought thar. Then about a month ago Rtings which is one if if not the most respected testing sites found thar the u8k is better. All the reviewers I seen either had them neck and neck or the u8k better. Plus the u8k is built more for people who like a total experience. U8K not only has the better speaker system but if one plans to use high-end equipment the tcls earc is only hdmi 2.0 so anything you hook to your receiver is only getting hdmi 2.0, that's a real ball drop. The U8K has a ATSC 3.0 tuner while the QM8 doesn't and the U8K has USB 3.0 while the QM8 doesn't. The only real advantage the QM8 has is its brighter but the U8K is very bright too
Everything I've seen says otherwise. The U8K has Wifi 6e, ATSC 3.0, the new pentonic 700 chip for substantially better upscaling per rtings. The hisense also has higher native and effective contrast, substantially more accurate EOTF tracking, and similar peak brightness. Heck at 65" you're even looking at similar dimming zone counts. At 75" I'd say the TCL has nearly double the dimming zones and keeps a VA panel for better contrast, but at 65" the Hisense is a no brainer over the tcl
This is a hell of a deal. I bought a 75-in TCL 555 for a family member for about $750 a few months ago and have no regrets. It's a great tv. This one is better though. Well worth the extra $150, even at 65".
Google TV OS... pass. Currently have a 55" TCL QLED with Google TV and the OS is VERY SLOW. I have another TCL that runs Roku and it's much better. Never getting another Google TV again. Sure, I can just run a 4k ONN box for $20 but doesn't help when I watch live OTA TV channels.
Lg c1 with whatever it comes with is trash. Wish it had google tv.

I've got a 65 inch LG C1 as my bedroom TV. Also hated the native LG software on it. I put a Roku Ultra on it and never looked back. Works great. It would be nice if it had Roku built in, but it's a $120 problem ($60 Roku Ultra, $50 Logitech Harmony Hub, and $10 for a real HDMI cable because the one that comes with the Roku Ultra is crap). Should I have had to pay the extra $120? No. But now everything just works.

You just listed all the things I don't care about for a tv. Thin tvs need an aftermarket solution for sound. That's why I have a sound bar or better. The eArc on the tcl doesn't take up one of the high bandwidth HDMI ports which is nice. USB 3.0? You don't really need that unless transferring large files or have a high bit rate video file. Instead I just use my Nvidia shield to consume media. Atsc 3.0 isn't really a necessity or a draw currently so it's a non issue. I would get the QM8 all day long. I currently have a hisense tv, and it will randomly takes issue with different external audio sources which are only fixed by unplugging it and plugging it back in. It had problems with our Bose system and our Vizio sound bar.
Can second everything said here. I have the U8H - bought in July for $830 and have the exact same audio issues and unplugging and plugging back in is the only fix for me too. Picture is great but I'm an audiophile and it's annoying as hell to have issues which Hisense claims it fixed in recent updates. I wish I would've waited for this deal on the QM8. TCL seems to be a far more reliable TV from what i hear.
Will never happen. 65" 8 series TVs from TCL & Hisense usually hit $750-800 a year & a half after release when the new model has been out for a while & they are clearing out inventory.
If you wait for $600 new, you'll never get an 8 series (flagship model) from TCL or Hisense.

Why is this worth spending roughly $600 more than i did for my current 65" TCL 4k HDR set??
I was deciding between the Q7 and the QM8. Roughly the same price difference. I chose the QM8 because of the higher brightness (TV will be in a bright area with lots of windows), and allegedly better contrast. I could have gone with the less expensive model, but I wanted to future proof it a bit. Also I didn't want to regret not buying the "better" model.
As for analogy, it's the difference between buying a Big Mac (or Whopper if that's your preference) vs. a double cheeseburger. They're mostly the same and will get the job done. But sometimes you want more than just the bare minimum or even "good enough". Sometimes you want to indulge a bit.
I have read reviews that put them both almost even. If you want ATSC 3.0 then you pick the Hisense. I believe that in general, the TLC brand has a somewhat better reliability rating. Hisense has an upgrade to the U8k coming in 2024, so the current model price will likely be discounted.
