If this is your first time using Brother laser, make sure you know that it's actually not laser but LED. Canon and HP use the real laser. The difference is when you have to print a high dpi photo on a flyer or brochure. Brother laser LED will not be able to print in High Detail like what Canon or HP laser can do. I learned this from personal experience.

You can fix the print cartridge so that the printer thinks its new. There are plenty of YouTube videos on this.

Not sure which printer I would buy today. Totally addicted to a good All in one Printer with duplex scanning and printing. Inkjet cartridges ended up in a crazy place so I switched to lasers, but now with chips lasers seem just as problematic.

SO now pondering switching to a tank based inkjet.

Gilette model is not my favorite as it causes them to inflate cartridge/refill costs.

SO with inkjets you normally want to leave the printer always on and Print about once a week or once every other week. Something simple like a well rounded color grocery list. Mainly to keep the nozzles clean.

Some inkjets handle being left off all the time better than others, but it is best to leave most printers always on...the good ones drawn little power when sleeping.

I have to excuse myself because I am posting this on several printer deal threads to get as much feedback. My wife is a life long teacher and I just started teaching this school year. At both our schools printers have been broken for 1 month and three weeks respectively. We have been printing from home using an old Brother inkjet that is finally giving up and wasting a lot of paper on miss-prints. In addition the school only gave me 5 reams of paper for the whole semester. We need a color printer that is the lowest cost per page long term. We don't get very much paper so it must print on both sides. I always told my wife if they don't give you the resources, don't print. Needless to say, now that I am teaching I realize how dumb that advice is. No learning happens without the prints. The semester is almost over so the purchase can wait until the beginning of the year. But I want to know what deal to jump on if I see it. Thanks everyone!
