The price of smr isn't worth the headache
Shuckable mostly means removing without damage, although to core goal is to get the drive out in a manner that allows it to be used elsewhere.

You almost certainly can remove the drive from this. The point is that the drive's SMR tech means it would be very slow compared to started hard drives, much less SSD.

The reason you want to shuck drives is more to allow you to run them as full speed with an internal connector like SATA. These drives aren't going to have a serious speed boost compared to the Enterprise-level drives in most of the WD MyBooks that are the focus of the shucking discussions.

As a result -- get these as, for example, backup drives. Keep them portable, and don't expect fast speeds from them.

Saw this last week at my warehouse. Would not be surprised if they dropped further as there were so many left. Link for Same Day Delivery - https://sameday.costco.com/store/...s/28423569 $112.97 = $99.97 in warehouse

Thank you! Same price at Fort Myers/Lee County store. Don't need it. But I have a 6Tb still going strong after quite a few years bought for the same price on a Black Friday at Costco. Second copy is a 8Tb Wd. Always good to have a second copy.

Huh, are these type of externals not always chuckable? Honest question.

Wait, is chuckable just the ability to take it out and use it in a desktop? Or is it taking it out without damaging the enclosure so it's not detectable in case of warranty issues?
