However, there was an issue that many of us slickdealers found after buying where trying to tether into Android Auto would brick the unit and require a manual hard reset of the head unit. I attempted to perform an update that was supposed to resolve the issue and that only managed to brick the unit as well. I'm not sure if any actual solution was ever found and I've just continued to use it for Bluetooth.
The most important, frustrating thing that has been a result of this head unit has been a trickle drain on my battery. Everything was installed properly (it's kind of hard to mess it up). A little while after I installed the head unit, my battery began to act strangely. Applying gas to accelerate my vehicle caused my headlights to dim and releasing the gas allowed them to brighten again constantly while driving. Eventually, my battery gave up and completely died. I jumped the car and took it to a shop and they verified that everything with my vehicle was functioning properly bit the battery was, in fact, dead. I bought another battery and went on with my life but have tried to figure out why my original battery (not very old BTW) died like it did. Everything else checked out and I watched the mechanic's readings so I know other electrical components were still doing their job. Now, maybe 8 months or so later, my car's headlights have begun to do the exact same dimming when I accelerate (something that was fixed with the new battery). I have had this car and worked on it for over 15 years and no other symptoms like this have ever occurred. It is well maintained and, as I pointed out, others causes had been professionally ruled out. The only link I could come up with is the head unit drawing power when it shouldn't by never correctly powering off. There's is no clear indication that it is actually pulling power but the issues repeating themselves after replacing my battery fitting the timeline is the original issue timeline after installing the head unit convince me that it is the most likely cause of my issues.
This was way too long but the point I wanted to make is that it may SEEM worth it to try out a feature packed head unit like this but just wait and find a well reviewed, name brand model that you know will have software support for updates. It isn't worth the headache of what could happen just to save money now

The radio isn't your issue. You need to find a different mechanic.

Installed incorrectly or bad ground somewhere?

I also bought this... it was a kit that came with the head unit and 4 speakers. I installed myself in a 98runner.. works great. Also installed a $15 cheapo backup cam.
Have you had any issues with it freezing and needing to be reset with advanced functions like Android Auto? Have you gone through any of the updates?
I don't believe it was installed incorrectly. A bad ground COULD be an issue. Even still, the device is a touchscreen Bluetooth player and nothing more due to the freezing/manual reset issues. I got frustrated with attempted software updates bricking it but, admittedly, need to do some follow up research to make sure there are not many more recent updates that could fix it. A lot of times, it isn't cost effective for budget companies to continue to update their products like this much at all so I just haven't checked but I will tomorrow and report back/update my review accordingly
A second mechanic confirmed that it could definitely be the radio. I'm not saying it is 100% the radio but I'm convibced that something about it is an issue for me.
Aside from that, the unit does not function properly with only the Bluetooth audio function working without freezing it up and requiring a hard reset.

No issues I can report... I did do firmware updates at the time of install but have not done any since then (I've not checked to see if there are any more recent ones)

Had this symptom for a few months while hunting a parasitic drain on and off. It suddenly got worse, then just failed so badly on the way home the alternator was literally dragging the battery voltage down/was almost driving with no lights to make it home. On a fully charged battery
Yes I had been monitoring the alternator output voltage and checking it in the driveway with a multimeter. It would look fine most of the time. A little eh once or twice till it just offed itself

That's exactly what I thought and was sure it was the alternator back when it started happening. I took it to the mechanic more than once to test and every time they tested the alternator right in front of me, they confirmed it was fine. The first mechanic just said it had to be the battery. The second dove deeper into the issue when I told him about the head unit.
I'm not going to pretend to be a master mechanic and would tend to agree that it was the alternator, 100% had it not been checked multiple times with no signs of failing.
Maybe it isn't the head unit and the second mechanic was full of hot air or maybe I need to try mechanic #3 lol
