The spec seems pretty good for a gaming laptop without breaking the bank.
It's also a gaming laptop for 550. Not too long ago the same money got you a GTX 1650. This dwarfs a 1650 by a long shot

ig they traded high refresh for brightness and color ... fair, i suppose. this at least has hdmi 2.1 and good ports to hook up a better display. i'd prob take this over the oled asus if it was $50 cheaper, sad

I'm with you. The upgradeability of 64GB RAM and dedicated GPU is worth me reconsidering the $699 Asus OLED. With its average screen and no Thunderbolt... it needs to be a little cheaper for me to pull the trigger.

It's $527 OpenBox-Excellent, which isn't bad? But yeah I think thunderbolt would really sweeten the deal, even at that price point.

Just an FYI:

(Microcenter In-Store) Gaming laptop with RTX 3050Ti, 17.3" FHD IPS 120Hz, i7-11800H, 16GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, Gateway $499.99

My local Microcenter has this item open box for $425. Does not contain original box, but has full manufacturer remaining warranty.

Normally I'd be concerned that it's Gateway, but reviews are very good at 4.8 out of 5 stars, from 191 total reviews.

Wanting to get my son a starter gaming laptop. Can't decide between this one for the one from Microcenter.

This is very bottom tier in every other way. Build quality. Screen quality and who knows the speakers or cooler because it's a gateway. Adding in a warranty puts it close to the msi and it's worse than the msi

It's also a gaming laptop for $430, $120 less than your own quote. Cool HUGE difference!
Open box available for $366, so even with the warranty it's still much cheaper.

The i7 has vastly superior specs for $500: RTX 3050Ti, 17.3" FHD IPS 120Hz, i7-11800H, 16GB RAM, 1 TB SSD.
Open box available for $100 less. Maybe that and the warranty is the way to go for SweetP, but he did say "starter gaming laptop."

Looking forward to you posting some comparable deals, Luigi...
