Asus has terrible quality control. I have returned 2 of these so far, purchased brand new. Left stick went bad after about a week, the 2nd one had a bad track pad. Oh.. and microSD card also got fried, which Asus really doesn't have a fix for.

"Track Pad"? There isn't one on the Ally. Try again.

Bad track pad? There isn't one. Sounds like you're justing lying tbh.

I have the ally and I had the steam deck. Ended up selling the steam deck and keeping the ally. Never had any of the issues you stated. The only thing that sucks is the battery life. Yes it gets hot, there are some solutions to this, you can YouTube to turn off the turbo on the CPU which seems to help with the heat with little performance differences.

Very nice machine but my SD card reader completely died after a month. Apparently the only way to get it fixed is to send it in and have the main board swapped out…

I had to swap out one, but it was frustrating for sure!

I feel the Steam deck has the advantage of Gameboy back in the day, more power is useless when the technology behind batteries still sucks. Don't have Rog but i have SD and it's great so far i use dual boot steam os and Windows (for gamepass) it's just fascinating how Valve is better in Gaming os than all consoles manufacturers combined even though Steam OS is Linux based they managed to make it user-friendly and Apple like (it just works) without the closed garden bs ..... that's being said SD screen sucks and no way to ignore it

adapter is $3 on Ebay from china or little more on Amazon with faster shipping. Then can use Normal Size 2280 NVMe drives.

If you buy new. If you buy used that doesn't generally apply. However, taking advantage of the sign on credit card reward bonus usually does the trick.
I've had luck with used items at big stores as long as the warranty was still considered active and I can show proof that the product registered with the manufacturer was active (save screenshots when registering).

As soon as you introduce competing consoles into the PC space, expect console war like fanboyism.

All of the people suggesting you buy a Lenovo Legion Go for over 50% more money while they have the same exact chipset is not the Slickdeals way. Sure, everyone should be aware of the SD card issue, but it's obvious some people are lying about getting multiple Ally's that broke down on them (like the guy who claimed to have a bad "trackpad").
Even though they have basically the same specs, I'm getting the Go for the larger screen. I tried an Ally and Its tough to play on a small screen for me now days. My eyes aren't what they used be.
Also, back when we played GBA and DS etc, the games were specifically made for small screens and had big chunky graphics and text.
But if I'm playing a game made for the tv or a large monitor, on a 7" screen... It's rough.

I have no idea why anyone cares about the microSD card reader. The fact is, you shouldn't, and it doesn't even need to be on here. Upgrade the SSD, or don't. That's it.

My joystick and rear trigger failed, so best buy replaced those and the motherboard. Everything works again.

I bought this over the steam deck because it's Windows. If that's not for you, why are you here.

The legion is more expensive and bigger. I want it smaller and thinner and as cheap as possible, because it's my portable machine, and it's my second machine. I still don't understand why ppl want the legion, but if bigger is what you want, then you should get bigger.

I have an x13 as well, so one day, I'm getting that $1500 eGPU with the RTX 3080, and I'm running both of my device with that card. One day...
