This is the time when you can pay under $300 for it, in great condition, used on the local marketplace. People are desperately selling for the ally x possibly.
It's also been at this price (for open box excellent) 4 separate times already, honestly it should be much lower with the imminent release of the ally x.
In my experience, the workers are pretty sloppy and it's hit or miss on whether something in 'open box excellent' will actually be in that condition.
If you can go down to the store and actually inspect the item first the open box fair may be a steal (if in good condition)
I've been getting interested in getting a deck. At this point though the legion go is looking more and more like the winner for me. What's the benefit of the ally over a legion?

For $50 the legion is a way better device
At $599 the leGo, unless you getting the ally for $300-$400 the legion Go screen itself blows the Ally's out the water, if you know what you doing in g helper you can create a nice custom fan curve and performs just as good and sometimes better than the ally due to faster ram speeds.
I got the 1tb Open box for this price and this thing is impressive

I can't recommend it enough and have absolutely loved owning mine. I bought this and the Legion Go at the same time to decide which I wanted to keep and ended up returning the Go due to joycon wobble, thicker/heavier, hotter, and much louder fan noise and coil whine. Oh, and that god awful dpad which sucks for fighting games. I did like the kickstand, which was nice since the weight and size is noticeably heavier than the Ally.
I'm interested in the Ally X and if I get on (on sale of course) I'll pass my Ally down to my son. But yea, can't recommend this thing enough.
Had a Deck, sold it. I'm not into Linux and if you don't already have a Steam Library, it's pretty much useless. Bought the Ally when it released, and I can't praise it enough. Plays damn near anything I throw at it. I can't believe I can play AAA games on a handheld. It's pretty amazing to say the least.
Ahh my apologies. Missed the X in the model number.
What is the performance difference between versions?
barely anything. Z1 Extreme is 32% faster at Turbo (plugged-in) mode; 28% faster at Turbo 25W mode; and 27% faster at Performance mode. On Silent mode, both devices are comparable.
I have had ally and claw at first to try, claw sucks due to ARC cpu being glitchy all times on many games, ally is better, but i found love in Lenovo Legion Go, better overall performance but handling, grip and being able to remove the controllers like on switch is an amazing future to have. In addition, you are on a 8.8" screen with better picture quality!

Tons of people will be trying to get rid of theirs locally for 300-350 now. I got mine for 350 like 4-5 months ago.

But now playing 10+ Hr's on an Ally, I can say that 120hz and 30-120hz VRR makes a WORLD of difference. (30hz is a software mod, stock is 48-120)
Its quite a bit more powerful also, but it seems like a lot of games are way more efficient on linux now thanks to Steam Deck.
If steamDeck 2.0 had a 1080p 120hz screen it would hands down be the best portible.
