Less than $100 in material costs and practically no labor costs besides packaging? Is there a Kamado Joe tree these are growing from that I'm not aware of?

Any great reason to upgrade from a II to this one?

No. The dimensions of the body are slightly taller on the III, but that's really it. Everything else, like the Slo-Roller and the beefier cart can be purchased separately for your II.

I've got a very similar Vision Kamado grill from Sam's Club and it's been great for 9 years with no issues. On sale for $449 $250 off price.

Amazing deal, itching to pull the trigger but I have the KJ classic already. Want that soft close hinge!

I have the KJ Classic I and love it! Hard to justify 'upgrading' to a III though. If I were to get a second one, I'd probably go for a Big Joe - nobody I know who has a Big Joe has ever complained about it being too big. On the contrary, there are a number of us who have the Classic and wish we would have gotten the Big Joe for the extra space Smilie

I've done a couple briskets on mine (in addition to random other grilling, picanha & chicken on the joetisserie, etc) and everything comes out so delicious.

If I didn't already have the KJ Classic I, I might consider this but that is definitely a lot of money to throw down on a grill Embarrassment To put it in perspective, the KJ Classic I was $350 IIRC from when there was that crazy deal on it at Walmart. I jumped on that quickly - good thing we were moved into our place because if we were still renting, I would have probably ordered it and had no idea what to do with it LOL

No. It's like the new iPhone. Dumb things they can throw in the ads that actually do nothing. Functionally it's identical

It's what I've had for a decade. I got mine on clearance for $400 brand new in the box and I didn't realize I had almost $200 in cash back back when Sam's did that. I'm not sure they do anymore.

It's identical to a classic Joe or large BGE. It came with 2 tier rack and a lava stone. Literally the exact same thing. Vision customer service is also stellar. No reason not to use them

This is an amazing price. Will be replacing my jr with this one. Love the jr but the additional space and functionality of the classic 3 makes this deal absolutely worth it for me.

So I get why people like these guys (used a JR a few times), they hold heat extremely well and very durable body, but literally the cost of these is ridiculously outrageous. It is less than $100 in material costs and practically no labor costs besides packaging, yet they charge over $1000 and its a deal...

Comparing it to my pitboss pellet grill they are about equal in food quality and I pay around $200-300 every 5 years for a new grill.

Steel is around .12 a lb on the most expensive end, guessing these guys buy in bulk so probably closer to the low end of .05lb, so total in metal cost on the extreme end $35 on the low end $15.... Yes metal is that cheap, unless your using silver or copper. Enamel paint can get industry size for probably $25-30 not counting bulk pricing. If they are using porcelain, 55lb bag $27.50 not counting bulk discounts. The few other smaller machine parts and screws and caster wheels another $10-15. Then you pay someone to assemble what a robot assembly line cant do, put it all in the box and the box and packing probably another $5-$10, also not counting their bulk discount.

So not really any Kamado Joe tree, I just work with supply chain and logistics who order stuff like this regularly for industrial supply, so breaking all these costs down is easy. There is nothing high tech about this, that would have absurd high component costs, it is primarily all just bulk raw materials and machining. If I had to guess their shipping costs are probably one of the biggest costs in the sale of these products. Still nothing to justify the price tag though in my opinion, but people who got money to throw away its cool. Like buying a dyson when you know a shark or another brand will do the same thing for $100's less.

You could say the same thing about any product. Quality and durability have to be paid. Your choice between a KIA and a Lexus. Both do the same thing my friend. If you want a grill to last a lifetime and even pass it to your son, go for the KJ. I have a Kamado Komodo 23" by the way. It is the same, a grill, but the price tag is around $4200 and a KJ Jr plus a gas Weber gas. As long as you and I are happy. Happiness cannot be explained and is not the same for everbody
