I think clearly what Apple intended here was to widen the difference between the M3 Pro and Max to make it more worth it to more people to upgrade to the M3 Max. Before, the CPU cores were the same between the M2 Pro unbinned chip and the M2 Max, so unless you needed the extra GPU cores or the higher max memory, there was no reason to upgrade. This year, it looks like the M3 Pro is more of a side grade to the M2 Pro (better more efficient 3nm chipset evened out by less performance cores) while they improved the M3 Max relative to the M2 Max a decent amount.
Not saying I agree with what Apple did or that I'm defending their new chip designs, just stating what I think Apple's doing.

So to answer your question, no. Don't buy a mac for gaming.
You can get a far better spec'd Windows gaming laptop for less than these cost, and you'll actually be able to upgrade it in the future; windows gaming laptops generally have multiple RAM and SSD slots(even the wifi card) so you can upgrade in the future and keep using your computer for a longer period of time. I've been using the same windows laptop for a decade now. It still runs perfectly, and I've upgraded the ssd and RAM over the years.
If anyone is stuck with a mac and still wants to game, I'd recommend checking out Factorio. It's an amazing game, and they have great support for Macs, including a native M1/2/3 port.

That said... I've had my 14" M1 Pro since day 1 and it's still amazing without any issues whatsoever. It doesn't seem like these Apple Silicon macbooks have had any widespread reliability issues over time.

LOL it sounds to me you're trying to make it sound worse than it really is.
they did 1-4 to reduce costs and brought the price down. not hard to understand.

So, given the choice of making a better computer for the price that more people would buy, or charging [apple.com] their loyal customers ridiculous [apple.com] markups on cheap components [apple.com], well, we see what they chose.
Best bet for gaming is with the non binned M3 Max that will have 40 GPU Cores! Vs the Pro with 18. A console or a windows PC are still your best bet for gaming sadly.
Might keep it sealed for few days to see if better deal pops up
It's a laptop with a non-upgrade soldered-to-the-motherboard 8gb of RAM and 512gb ssd.
Oh, and on top of that, it's shared RAM; your GPU will be using part of that 8gb.
Why anyone would spend $1400(or $1600 on Apple.com) on that is beyond me.
My 2013 generic Windows laptop (Sager NP8290, which I'm still using as my daily driver) has 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD installed. Aren't we way beyond considering 8GB of shared RAM and a 512GB SSD in a "premium professional" laptop as acceptable?
Oddly enough, if you go for the most expensive M3 Pro Macbook Pro, it maxes out at 36GB of shared RAM for $2900(with a 512GB hard drive). That's the same as my 2013 windows laptop has installed(32GB RAM and 4GB VRAM), and that cost far less than this. If you want to match my 2TB ssd capacity, that'll be an extra $600(Why? How?) for a total of $3500.
In fact, the largest ssd you can order on a Macbook Pro M3 Pro is 4TB for a $1200 upcharge. I could slap a second 2TB drive in my 2013 laptop to match that for a $100 upcharge. How can anyone justify paying $1200 for a 4TB drive?
In fact, my laptop supports 3 internal drives, so I could slap a third in and have 6TB of storage space in my 10 year old laptop for $200, and somehow that's literally impossible on an expensive "premium high-end professional" laptop that hasn't even launched yet.
You can argue that the Mac upgrades are overpriced all you want, but doing it by comparing the m-model Mac's to a 10 year old pc laptop is not the way to do it.

You have to understand that slamming the best of the best, latest and greatest into the next gen machine days has gone now. All these new hardwares are 99% capable of doing what 99% of the population needs to do.
now its the time for efficiency, and integration.
