Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

What do you mean by 3 times? I see that the offer has a max 2 phones per customer limit. Does it imply that it's churnable? The limit resets when the next round of offer begins?

I think it's dual SIM, I have one from visible it supports one physical sim and one eSIM. Has home button/Touch ID. No Face ID, but it's really good I get decent performance

They had a lot of these in stock before, but sold out when Best Buy was doing that trade in deal for the Pixel 8 series. It doesn't look like they ever got more stock back in after that deal ended a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah, I guess that's the new unlocking policy now that it's bought by Verizon. I'm tempted to commit to my mom to buy one. She has an iPhone 8, one day it'll break and I'm worry she'll run to a carrier store and pay way too much.

But knowing her, she's not going to spend any money until her phone is broke. Maybe I should just buy it and give it to her. For Christmas or wait for it to break and then give it to her
It's not good for the phone to sit in the drawer with completely discharged battery for too long. So recharge it from time to time if you decided to buy now and give it to her later.

Charge to 80% and turn it off. They don't drain very fast when they're not running

I wonder if you could activate on Total by Verizon instead
I accidentally activated a Total Wireless promo iphone on Straight Talk 2 years ago. It worked out fine and was unlocked automatically after 60 days.

The Walmart website probably shows that it is out of stock, so people don't start reserving them for pickup. I went to a store this morning and saw 5 in the locked cabinet even though the website says it's out of stock.. I will go back Monday to buy one.

I paid $150 two months ago had it shipped. Great backup phone. Mines already unlocked. I really hope they update it for the next iteration. Maybe go with an 6.1 XR form factor or mini 13. I would pay full retail for a stripped down 15. Introducing the SE and SE Plus 🍎 I think you're going to love them 🍎

Brickseek hasn't been reliable for a while.

These may have different packaging with the promotional info attached & won't even show up till the 6th.

My store shows OOS, I went in and ask phone rep how many, showed me five....

Now the problem is what time the OSL cellphone dept. starts on Monday, OSL Rep said weekdays are 10-11am depending who's working that day...when I pushed, he got bitching about it.

This might be the cheapest iPhone model I can buy anytime soon and hope to unlock and use with tmobile. Don't have a walmart near me so $85 doesn't seem too bad
