Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Actually, the companies are becoming even closer. Many of the ST phones don't even require a call for rebranding any more. Loads of people were able to successfully activate them on TF right through the online portal. As long as you can get it activated on TF, it unlocks 60 days later. I've done two ST phones that way and there were a bunch of others from the last ST thread.
Can confirm, ST/TF/Total is a distinction without a difference. The backend stuff is all the same. When I went to the store and bought a couple they were taken from a Straight Talk display case, with a Total By Verizon Sim attached to each box, and when they activated they showed a TFW network indicator.

I wouldn't recommend it - especially if you want the phone to get unlocked. Best to just leave things alone till you get the "no sim restrictions" in settings.

thanks , if I leave the sim in the iphone, can I do port-out without jeopardizing the unlock?

Never tried it, I always wait till the phone actually unlocks.
If you port out number it closes the account, so it's up to you if it's worth it.

My order from ST without plan shipped by UPS is Out for Delivery but also "received a request from the sender to return the package". Let's see if I can got this one in hand.
If you see the UPS driver pull up, you might want to try to meet him as he's walking up the drive with your hand out. If he hands it to you as he scans it, you might be able to hang onto it if it has your name and address and is a delivery for you. Once it's in your hands, he may ask for it back, but I doubt he'd try to physically take it from you if you refused. And even if the cops were called, they're not going to get in the middle of something like that if it's in your physical possession with your name and address on it. Handing it over before finishing the paperwork would be the driver's issue and getting it back would be civil matter at that point.

Someone replied earlier that they had one from a previous deal delivered and the driver actually came back for it 15 minutes later. And I think I recall seeing one or two others from previous threads saying they received them even after a return request, so it may be a possibility.

Hopefully, some will get delivered for this deal, for entertainment purposes

Yeah, it would be an interesting showdown if someone actually got one in their hands and the driver tried to get them to hand it back over saying there's been a mistake, lol.

It's definitely a possibility - that was me with a TF prepaid sim order. Driver must have received the return request a few minutes after he delivered it (or just hadn't paid attention).

That's why I say don't count on anything till it's in your hand. When deals go haywire like this anything is possible.

Got to store at 11 am today. They had several in stock, but no rep to work the register until noon. Also, price in this store (Fishkill, NY) was $99.
Yup I paid 99 at the store also with 35 plan. The shady Bs is Walmart charge tax off $149 and not off $49
