Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Is it possible to add the phone to a TFW account?
You will lose the Straight Talk Plan - activate as a new locked TF using included sim.
Did one a few months ago, unlocked with no problem.

I got my phone delivered from StraightTalk but it looks like the SIM won't activate there, only on Total... and its asking me to buy a plan. WTF?

If you bought ST plan you have to activate on ST, call on their useless customer service

Read the wiki post in this thread, you need to activate by phone.

When calling Straight Talk, use this number 866-806-1840 , when asks for reference enter 267364 . People are "slightly" more competent at that number. Dont be confused if ivr says Total Wireless.

Not necessary to call support - mine came with activation instructions for either one, user just needs to read & follow the included directions for automated activation on Straight Talk instead of TW.

Makes sense. I thought he was having issues activating with ST and then tried TW.

Bought 2. One activated right away. Other phone I had to go back to the store, kept asking for my activation pin. She had to print it off, and it worked. Seems like some activations happen right away. Some orders the service plan is not attaching. Get your 15 digit pin printed out, that way if it doesn't activate, you can manually just like it you bought a prepaid card in store. And if you buy 2 use 2 separate emails, hit guy next to me used the same email and that caused him problems. That's after 2 visits where nobody was working to activate the phones. Walmart is not equipped to handle this.

They shouldn't even activate these phones instore. Easier to Sell phone at $49 and require $35 pin card they have on shelves since the system is that messed up.

Printed instructions in box say TW then ST - & people just aren't reading - took less than 10 minutes to follow the prompts & get one activated last night. Couldn't have been easier.

Both phones activated in store tonight and got the unlock text for both.

If activating in store, is auto renew on by default? If not, we don't even need to make a ST account, correct?

Also, how much do we need to "use" the phone after getting the unlock text?

The phone doesn't need to be active in the 2nd month for the unlock to happen, does it?

Once your phone is activated. Text UNLOCK to 611611 to confirm the Automatic Unlock Date it will reply with exact date and use phone for a few days to make calls.

I did and I got forwarded to Total, and asked for a PIN to reload the balance.
