Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Both phones activated in store tonight and got the unlock text for both.

If activating in store, is auto renew on by default? If not, we don't even need to make a ST account, correct?

Also, how much do we need to "use" the phone after getting the unlock text?

The phone doesn't need to be active in the 2nd month for the unlock to happen, does it?
Based on everything I've seen, the WARP system where the phones are activated do not get any payment info and none of that payment info is shared from the Walmart register. And I haven't seen anyone at all report that autopay was somehow turned on from a Walmart purchase. So that shouldn't be a concern. You also shouldn't need to use the phone at all for the unlock. I have unlocked several without ever even unboxing them. If concerned, you could either use it once more shortly before plan expiration or look at the web account to verify that the line is still active at that point, but that shouldn't be necessary. Nope, you don't need a second month.

Do you have the paperwork? It should list the airtime code in it.
It won't be on the receipt, the rep had to print it on their "warp system". The checkout computer only scans the warp upc for the transaction. But definitely get that code, most times your phone will activate, but if the rep goofs up sometimes they don't redeem the code for your activation.

I think I saw that someone was able to activate on TF, but why would you?

It's a serious question. I have a TF account and I'm wondering if there is a good reason to merge everything.
I have a TF account and I need a phone.

Yeah, activating the phone on your TF account shouldn't be a problem. You'll lose the ST plan, but that's pretty much a throwaway for most people anyway. Just make sure that you use the SIM that came with the phone when you activate it so that you get the unlock. You should be able to just walk through the activation process as if it were a TF phone (use the "Activate / New Tracfone" option if you do it from the website). Some users have needed to call, but it seems to depend on the luck of the draw.

phone $49.99
plan $35.
w tax about $95 out the door.
Same! Just walked out with mine 2 hours ago. They still had 3 more phones in the backroom storage locker after activating mine.

I'm using this phone as my "driver iq" phone to unlock a minimum of 10% savings for my insurance premiums. Going to save me about $40 a month. Let my ultra careful wife take it to work with her and back home or wherever she stops at.

You might get lucky and get a rep that will cancel but 2 of them told me to refuse when it ships so I suspect that is the line they're giving everyone right now

I called 877-430-2355 and after typing the IMEI number the system said my phone has been active already, so I don't need to do anything just wait for two months, and then will they automatically unlock? Or I still need to text message 611611? Thank you~

Yeah, texting 611611 for an unlock date is strictly informational and not required. If your phone is successfully activated on their network, it should unlock automatically in 60 days. If not turning on the phone, you may want to log into the ST site to verify that the correct IMEI shows up under your device info and that the plan countdown has started.

My goodness, yes. I should create a Straight Talk bingo card. Calling customer service leads to the following conversations:
  • We can't find your order.
  • Your order is cancelled. You violated the terms of the promotion (even though I ordered a $45 plan with the phone on 11/8)
  • Our refund process is "iNsTanT".
  • Your order is pending, not cancelled.
  • You need to wait 3-5 business days (standard answer for everything related to time: shipping speed, refunds from the bank, when your order will be shipped, emails, etc.)
  • The phone is out of stock (then why can I place an order for the phone on your website?)
  • Hangs up at any point in the conversation
  • Ask one question. Placed on hold for 30 seconds. Ask a follow up question. Placed on hold for another 30 seconds.
  • "May I have your first name?"
Bonus: Online chat promises a callback. They never do.

Picked mine up after going to 3 walmarts in the rain. The wireless guy was MIA for 45 min. But once he showed up, he was knowledgeable, processed the orders (1 at a time) without any upselling whatsoever. Answered all my questions I had. Almost $100 each as everyone else stated, showed up in my account, (had to reset password since no combination of email/imei/serial/etc worked.) and got text with unlock date. Everything seemed to be smooth.

Is this on the verizon network? The sim card paper had Verizon Total mention on it. I assume no issue using it on T-Mo once it unlocks?
