Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

biggest scam of the year

ordered within the first hour of deal going live on ST website, order still in accepted state, multiple calls to ST did not get anywhere

checked 4 Walmart stores, got ST guy not around during business hours (quit, or show up whenever they feel like) or told out of stock when their own inventory checker showed plenty in stock...

what a waste of time
Unfortunately, this deal is very YMMV. It looks like some people were able to get it easily when they get to stores with good reps. The stores I've went to either didn't have any cell phone reps that can do phone activations or the outsourced OSC cell phone reps only show up about a few hours a week whenever they want, with no fixed schedule. They are extremely unprofessional.

I did, no issues. Went to the apple store and did the trade in on t-mobile for an iphone 15. I qualified for the $800 credit through t-mobile.
Can you do T-Mobile trade in to get the phone and then immediately cancel service?

The phone is worth 1000 in trade in credit at Verizon

You can get it from either new line or loyalty offer

Combo with Costco bonus to get 100 or 250 Costco credit and Vz $200 port number offer to get even more

I just did 6 lines with various of new line and loyalty offers at Costco

Will sell the existing 13s to offset the cost of se and tax fee on the 15s

Yes Vz is expensive, but if you qualify for their discount it's not that bad

For reference 4 of my 6 lines on the old 5 G plan cost 28 after tax and fees
Do you have to sign a 2 or 3 year contract? I see plans cost $60 per month?

This is the best iphone deal AFAIK. The deal is available now at most superstores but I would call to make sure they have stock and the capability to activate in store.

It's $50 more at ST website. Delivered to your door usually in 2-3 days.
The phone may be available in most superstores but the deal itself certainly isn't. The deal is only available in stores that have dedicated cell phone activation reps (usually outsourced to OSC). Pretty scummy of Walmart to have this hidden limitation to cut down how many people can actually participate in this deal.

Was it locked or unlocked? The SE? Why do at Apple store?

Got 2 phones, one activated fine.

The second didn't activate, always asks for a plan number. Called customer service 3 times, opened a ticket, and can't get it activated for the life of me... and they just hung up on me.

Off to figure out how chargebacks work I guess.
Just activate on a $10 tracfone plan and call it a day. Use the same sim. Do not use BYOD.

It does not to be unlocked, I also did it at the apple store yesterday for the locked iphone SE from straight talk and they gave me a $160 gift card.

While you can also do the trade in online, you then have to wait for them to send you a box, then you have to mail it in to them, and hope the person who inspects it does their job correctly. (I did the same thing 2 years ago on a similar deal and I mailed it in to them, a brand new iphone, and they sent it back saying there was something wrong with the screen. I ended up sending it back to them a 2nd time, the same exact phone, and the 2nd time the person who inspected it gave me the full value.)

So it is just much easier to bring it in to to an apple store and get the gift card on the spot if you live near or are passing an apple store.

What about a Tmobile store? Apple stores will do a Tmobile activation?

If you're just trading it in to Apple, then $160 isn't nearly as good as $830 from Tmobile so if you're looking for new service then that's a better value
