Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

I've never bought service from website unless I buy a refurbished phone & then it's usually $15 as well - doesn't matter to me since I always activate with current number & it just adds to balance.
(Also bought several of the $40 flip phone deals with 2 phones/2 years service so haven't needed to buy service for a while)
Hehehe. Smart!

Dang. Was going to get one for my Mom today as her 6s is about dead.
I have a 6S Plus that was given to me last year. It works well except the battery life sucks. I think it still has better than 80% battery health. So maybe IOS 15 is killing it.

Ordered on Nov 6 with the 45 plan. Chatted with agents and talked to them on the phone a couple times. They told me to wait 3 days. Just did a charge back on Paypal and got my money back instantly.

I know right. After I clicked submit, they said, they will refund me. I was surprised as well. This is my first time doing a dispute with paypal and infact with any credit cards in my life.
submitted dispute and also got immediate refund message, 3-5 business days.

Probably not, though. I tried and failed 4 times to get one.

For those getting the deal, it's $49 for the phone when you buy a single month of the $35 plan, so under $100 out the door and it unlocks after 60 days. No need to buy anything else and the plan is prepaid, so it just cancels automatically when used up. Some people like the really small form factor of these phones and they have 5G and A15 chip, so should perform well. I almost always have an iPad or laptop at hand so I dislike bigger phones, as I rarely use it for more than calls and texts. Others want them for trade-in value which can be good, depending on the deal. Hard to go too far wrong for the low price, as it's hard to find even good used iPhones for that.
You type 611611 , it should give you the date of the unlock.

The whole SIM-swapping thing is generally viewed as bad with these deals, as people have had issues with unlocks getting messed up. Delaying the network activation isn't usually a problem, but once you activate the service to trigger the unlock, it's safest to keep that phone and line locked together until the unlock happens. Trying to switch the service to a different phone essentially changes the IMEI in their system, which could mean the unlock doesn't get pushed through. I don't know any of that with certainty, but it's often warned on these threads that it can be problematic. Activating the phones physically before network activation to use as Wi-Fi devices is no problem, although that won't trigger the unlock timer. One possible workaround if I'm understanding what you're looking to do correctly would be to give the phones to your fam members to use as Wi-Fi devices now and then wait to network-activate them when you want to use the service. At that point, activate the service on those SEs and swap phones so that you now use the SEs until the unlock and then swap back later. (Phone backups can be done with iTunes prior to swaps which will essentially make the phones practically identical in content with all your contacts and call / message history intact.) I'm not sure if that's feasible, but one possibility. You could also try the phone-swapping thing, but I'm just not sure what to expect with that, as I haven't seen much data with people trying. Most everyone seems to keep the line / IMEI steady through the unlock.
Thanks for your detailed reply and apologies for the delay. So we decided to keep the phones afterall, they will make great "travel phones" (phones with physical SIM). I haven't activated them yet and have received a few automated reminder emails from ST to do so. I will be contacting CS to find whether I can hold off activating them until early Jan. Assuming that is possible, we will swap phones and use the SE's as our primary phones for the duration of the ST plan as you suggested.

My phone always shows LTE and no 5G. It has been running for days. I guess no 5Gbands for ST.

They do have 5G, but it depends where you're at as far as gettIng it. 5G is still relatively new and still being rolled out in some areas, with smaller carriers probably lower on the totem pole for access.

I ordered 1 phone with the $35 plan, they canceled it without actually telling me. I did a Paypal dispute and got my money back within a week or so.

I ordered a 2nd with the $45 plan, and got around to opening it up and trying to activate it. I never got a $45 service plan with the UPS package, so when it asks for PIN or whatever I have nothing to enter. I called ST and they say they have no record that I ordered a $45 plan, just the phone!

Dispute put in to PayPal for the whole amount, let's see what happens.
