Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Your service is activated. You do not have to insert the sim if you want to keep it boxed up. You can verify activation by attemtping to access your account online by using your email that you signed up with. You will see the number of days of service remaining. The phone will unlock in 60 days. You can also verify activation by inputting the IMEI at sickw.com and you can revisit that site in 61 days to verify the unlock.
Thanks! I check it on sickw.com and it shows as :

Locked Carrier: 2360 - US TracFone/StraightTalk Locked Policy
Sim-Lock Status: Locked

Does this mean it is already activated?

I don't have an email for the account, when I purchase, I used a guest checkout. Put a email there as confirmation of the order. Should I use this email to sign up for an account first and then check on straight talk website?

I didn't use an email. Just send text to 611611 and type unlock and it will tell you when your phone will be unlocked.

It certainly is not a guarantee. You can go back to page 284 to look at slysol and my comments. It seems that yes it will still unlock.

Had some free time yesterday and decided to go to AT&T and trade the phone in. Went to a corporate store and it was pretty much hassle free. They took the phone in w/o question, was there for about an hour since there was little staff that day, got $1000 bill credits and put it towards a Samsung Galaxy S23+. Overall I paid a little over $200 after taxes and activation fee. Thank you OP for posting this!

The best trade-in value I can find for an unlocked S23 seems to be $105.

This one's not unlocked, sorry should've specified. Been with AT&T for over 15 years and have no plans to leave. Pretty much need to stay with AT&T for 3 years with this promo.

I am curious, how much you pay to AT&T for one month?

Is it important to say "No" when it asks to add to an existing account? I technically have an account with Straight Talk as my phones were never shipped and my order was cancelled, but I was able to buy an unopened phone from another member that changed their mind.

You don't need to enter an account to activate them.

Thanks…makes sense. Can you later associate the phone with your account if you decide to use it? I assume so…

This works if the walmart rep did full activation. Some walmart reps were doing half activations, (meaning you'd need to finish it yourself with the 15 digit pin), in those cases, a future buyer would be suredly surprised if you got only the half activation from the walmart rep. this keeping the box sealed is an extrememly 50/50 luck chance that your walmart rep did full and not half

That's why you verify by logging into the ST website to look for the active plan counting down the days and your correct IMEI. If they didn't fully activate, the plan countdown won't have started yet.

yeah i totally get that SkySol, yeah a future buyer woudlnt be surprised. but i guess i was trying to point more to the fact that its 50/50 full/half activations, and if its half you are still screwed as you gotta deal with returning etc, or at least having to go back to store and have them fully activate in WARP
