Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.

So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.

Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

It said no sim restriction under setting/general
Just to add to this, you also need to go to About under General and scroll down to "Carrier Lock".

So how to confirm the iPhone is unlocked other than using it with some other services?
Without actually power on the iPhone, you can use sickw.com to check if it's unlocked.Choose the "iPhone Carrier - Simple" check and you can check a few imei for free every day.

Damn missed out on such a good deal. Now it's$149.
I just wanted one for my mom as she has 6 year old Samsung on metro
I still have samsung s8 + as a backup phone and lazy to transfer pictures, files to my current A71 phone. Although the s8+ screen has terrible screen burn in and needing to constantly update apps. I missed out on not trading it in long ago. The iPhone se supposedly gets unlocked in January and hopefully it'll work with my tmobile sim

I just checked my phone. I have about a month more to wait. I plan use the phone on Trac Fone. They'd likely rebrand early but I'll wait the 60 days anyway. I don't want to have a problem with the unlock.

I got one phone from Walmart and another one online Straight talk, the phone I got from Straight talk activated but the walmart one forgot to activate, I tried to activate it today but did not activate the service plan since 1 month passed after purchase of the service plan. Could someone help if there is any alternative way to activate the phone with out buying new service plan.

Do you know the email that you used? You can login using forgot password and then you can see if it was activated ( most store activations were done correctly, some were not). If you powered up the phone you can also text UNLOCK to 611611 to confirm the Automatic Unlock Date it will reply with exact date. (You will likely need to send this message twice, as it often doesn't reply the first time). If it responds with a date then you're good.

If you know for sure that is was never activated then you can activate it as a new phone at tracfone using the $15 plan and then wait the 60 days for unlock.

And as always review the wiki for more info.

Thanks , so if I bought the one from Walmart, I don't Technically need to activate with straight talk with $35 plan, I could do it via tracfone for $15?

The deal from Walmart was supposed to require purchase of the $35 or higher ST plan with immediate / in-store activation. However, a few did manager overrides on the price if they couldn't figure out how to ring the deal. If you happened to get one for $49 that way, then you could activate with Tracfone for a cheaper plan, but that was somewhat uncommon.

Oh I see thanks for clearing that up. I read few pages back but couldn't confirm so it looks like it's not everyone' will get this deal.
