One of the best eInk writing experiences out there, but the software needs work. Notes are trapped in the Kindle ecosystem and the import/export method for your own documents is minimal.

Decent hardware -- abysmal software. Your notes are locked into their ecosystem, it's impossible to change many settings (like background paper type) after the fact, hard to migrate anything in or out. And the hardware is closed, so third party/independent devs can't write software for it. No idea if anyone has hacked it yet --- doubtful, given litigious Amazon + high cost of the unit + so few adopters.

Yeah Amazon is very an about their products. I recently bought a used echo studio and it was just an expensive brick because Amazon locked the device due to it coming as stolen device...I got my money back ofc but I asked if I can drop it off at an Amazon locker for turn in because there are enough e-waste but they have no such program. It's really a shame to be this wasteful but I guess I can. Take it apart to repurpose the driver's at least for a smart mirror project I'm working on.

I really want a Scribe, but it seems like it's really held back by software. I always get stuck debating between this and a Boox e-ink tablet which is more like an android tablet that happens to be e-ink, but then I'm stuck with an android tablet and will most likely get distracted.

I just returned mine bc the writing was a joke. I was super excited about it too so seriously disappointing. It was writing about an inch before it ever came in contact with the ereader and even when I picked up pencil, its page scribbling all ober page. Numerous reviews with the exact same issue with the writing. And the price, I was surprised my paperwhite is waterproof for $369 scribe was not. Tip, buy an iPad and iPencil. Works a lot better and more useful.

Why not Remarkable? All it's really going for it is the writing-without-distractions part.

You cannot remove the ads from the Home Screen (not the Lock Screen). There is no longer an ad free Kindle no matter the price. I get recommended steamy, sexually charged books constantly… it's great in a professional environment…
