I think that's the point. If I could get it without the battery for less than $99 I'd probably pick it up. I've got too many batteries as is. Don't need another battery and charger

I understand, but I spent quite a while trying to find a better deal, and never saw it go below $99 bare tool, and that was 2-1/2 years ago now. You might be able to find one from a kit on marketplace or ebay for less. But a quick check shows them at $90, and that's without a warranty. Better to buy the kit and sell the battery, charger, and maybe bag.
